Phlebotomist/EKG Technician - Full Time Nights

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Phlebotomist/EKG Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings by performing blood draws and EKGs. This is a fast-paced environment where you'll build relationships with patients, many of whom are seen regularly. Phlebotomy/EKG Technicians are essential members of the care team, and we are looking for individuals who bring strong technical skills, a patient-centered approach, and a positive contribution to the work environment.

This position is benefits eligible and includes shift differential pay for nights and weekends.

This position is assigned to a night shift schedule. Due to the training investment and staffing continuity required for this role, candidates with the ability to remain in the night shift assignment for at least 12 months are strongly preferred. Priority consideration will be given to applicants with healthcare experience, particularly in phlebotomy and/or EKG.

Location: Bellevue Medical Center | Nebraska Medicine Omaha, NE

Schedule Details:

  • Full Time

  • 7 On / 7 Off Rotation

  • Third Shift Hours:

  • Thursday/Friday: 7:30 PM - 5:30 AM

  • Saturday/Sunday: 6:00 PM - 5:30 AM

  • Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday: 7:30 PM - 5:30 AM

Duties: Phlebotomist/EKG Technician

Responsible for duties related to performing adult and pediatric EKG testing, specimen collection, specimen processing, and distribution of patient specimens for testing while adhering to department identification policies. Perform, evaluate, and report patient specimens using point-of-care instrumentation. Demonstrate behavioral skills that contribute to a productive work environment and provide excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications: Phlebotomist/EKG Technician

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Ability to multitask required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire or transfer required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).

Preferred Qualifications: Phlebotomist/EKG Technician

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Successful experience in clinical laboratory medicine preferred.
  • Direct patient care experience OR completion of a phlebotomy course OR phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Prior non-invasive cardiology experience preferred.
  • Experience with arrhythmias / 12 lead interpretations preferred.
  • College courses in physiology, anatomy, physics, and/or other related subjects preferred.
  • Nationally recognized certification or registry in electrocardiography (EKG) preferred.
  • Successful completion of a nationally recognized phlebotomy certification program preferred.
