Job Description

Hope Partnership for Education is an independent middle school and education center that provides a high quality, values-based education that supports and challenges students from adolescence to adulthood. Serving the Hartranft/Fairhill section of North Philadelphia, Hope was founded and endorsed by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy in June, 2002.

Position Title: Teacher- Physical Education

Reports to: Principal

Position Purpose: Physical health and education instruction to 5th- 8th graders. Inspire and instruct students to stay fit, challenge them to meet goals and to begin a lifelong commitment to health and good fitness habits.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and teach physical education classes at multiple grade levels
  • Follow classroom routines and procedures to maintain appropriate atmosphere for learning
  • Adherence to school regulations related to attendance, punctuality, maintaining accurate records, communicating with families
  • Participate in school events, professional growth and development opportunities
  • Monitor students in lunchroom, gym, and hallways during individual duty periods
  • Encourage students to adopt healthy eating habits in accordance with school nutrition policies
  • Teach and model conflict resolution skills
  • Maintain the equipment and facilities

Skill:

  • Possess some athletic skill in order to demonstrate activity
  • Be a vocal and outgoing person who is good at motivating middle school students

Qualifications:

  • College degree in the appropriate field
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Record of good attendance
  • Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Generally works in standard inner city school condition and climate
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, walk, see, hear, while being actively involved with the students in class
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
