SUMMARY: With supervision, provides physical therapy assessment, treatment, and consultation as a member of

the interdisciplinary team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts physical therapy assessments and admission screenings. 5%
  • Manages a student caseload using an integrated therapy model: provides direct and indirect service, maintains records, and participates in interdisciplinary programming. 40%
  • Provides consultation and training to staff, parents, and community based professionals 25%
  • Monitors the implementation of student programs. 10%
  • Designs, orders or fabricates, as necessary, updates and monitors the use of adaptive positioning equipment, assistive devices/ wheelchairs and orthotics. 10%
  • Continues professional development and education. 5%

Marginal Functions: 5%

  • Provides new employee training on student transfers, lifts and mechanical lifts
  • Move equipment between buildings; assist with ordering and maintaining office, clinic and workroom spaces
  • Supervises clinical students.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS:

Equipment Used: Developmental therapy equipment, exercise equipment, positioning equipment/ wheelchairs, orthotics, assistive devices, lifting devices, personal computers, hand and power tools, industrial sewing machine, video equipment, telephones, copy machine, car.

Performance Standard: Must consistently demonstrate clinical competence in a!) areas of performance consistent with recognized standards of the physical therapy profession.

Work Environment and Demands: Multiple indoor and outdoor environments, on and off campus, with a variety of sound, lighting, and temperature conditions. Significant walking between buildings; must be able to lift 35 lbs. routinely.

Work Schedule: 35 daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with a daily 30 minute unpaid lunch. Flextime scheduling available. Some early morning and evening consults and training required. This position follows a 11 or 12 -month annual calendar (requires working during the 4 week Extended School Year program in the summer).

QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills and General Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of normal/abnormal sensory-motor development and musculoskeletal function/dysfunction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of appropriate evaluative and treatment techniques for individuals with multiple disabilities 3-21 years of age.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of orthotics/ wheelchairs, adaptive positioning equipment, and assistive devices appropriate for individuals 3-21.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of proper body mechanics and use of mechanical lifts.
  • General knowledge of disabling childhood conditions such as, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and autism, and their impact on sensory-motor and musculoskeletal development.
  • Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

After the first year in this position, the employee is required to have:

  • General knowledge of IDEA and COMAR regulations and service implications; crisis intervention and behavior management; data collection; visual impairment/blindness relative to sensory-motor development; total communication systems; best practices for bus transportation; MSB policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge to provide clinical supervision, basic mechanical skills for equipment adjustment and repairs.
  • General understanding of school based versus medica! models of service delivery.
