Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
Role Summary
Empower patients to regain their independence and improve their quality of life as a Physical Therapy Assistant in our primarily hospital-based outpatient clinic. In this role, you will execute individualized plans of care developed by Physical Therapists, delivering skilled interventions to a diverse patient population ranging from juveniles to geriatrics. You will treat a variety of conditions, including total joint replacements, musculoskeletal pain (back, shoulder, foot), and neurological disorders like Parkinson’s and Stroke. This position offers a collaborative environment where you will work alongside an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, life-changing therapy.
Key Duties:
Skilled Intervention: Provide expert treatment for functional mobility, motor function, muscular strengthening, ambulation, balance, and wound care.
Clinical Execution: Follow established plans of care with measurable functional goals, while remaining sensitive to each patient’s psychosocial and cultural needs.
Patient & Family Education: Lead education efforts for patients and caregivers to ensure a safe and successful transition to independence upon discharge.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Consult and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic and comprehensive patient treatment.
Documentation & Billing: Maintain clear, timely documentation that meets APTA guidelines and ensures accurate billing charges.
Clinical Flexibility: While primarily based in the outpatient clinic, you may occasionally flex into the Acute Inpatient or Rehab unit to support hospital needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a nationally accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program.
Licensure: Must be eligible for or hold current licensure with the New Mexico State Physical Therapy Board.
Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required before the start of employment.
Experience: While 1+ year of experience is preferred, new graduates are welcome to apply. (For travelers, 1 year of outpatient experience is preferred).
Clinical Skills: Basic computer proficiency and the ability to schedule and perform patient care independently.
Desired Skills
Versatility: Experience or comfort working in both outpatient musculoskeletal and inpatient neurological rehabilitation settings.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively educate families and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team.
Organization: Ability to manage a steady caseload of 8 to 10 patients per day.
Location and Work Type
Location: Artesia, NM
Work Setting: Primarily Hospital-Based Outpatient (with Inpatient Rehab flex)
Work Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Rotations: Weekend rotation (1 every 5 weeks) covering inpatient units; potential holiday rotation.
