Join Our Team at Allina Health Cancer Institute!

We are seeking a Surgical Oncology Physician Assistant to become an integral part of our dynamic surgical team.

Position Highlights:

  • Full-Time role based at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, with occasional coverage at other metro Allina Health Cancer Institute locations.
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, with weekend rounding approximately 1 in every 7 weeks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the surgical team, with a primary focus in the Operating Room (OR) supporting procedures in:
    • Breast Surgery
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB)
    • Thoracic Surgery
    • Urology
    • Gynecology
  • Provide some inpatient rounding across these multidisciplinary surgical specialties.

Job Description:

Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a Physician/Physician Assistant team in accordance with the designated specialty. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
    • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
    • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
    • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
    • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
    • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
    • Refers for specialty care when determined.
    • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Participates in health care team
    • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
    • Acts as resource to members of the team.
    • Works with primary care team for program development.
    • Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
    • Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree- Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a PA in surgical oncology/surgical role

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Physician Assistant- MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Certification as Physician Assistant- NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) required upon hire
  • Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire

Pay Range

Pay Range: $135,096 to $164,216 per yearThe pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
