Job Description

Northwest Specialty Hospital is seeking a skilled and passionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Surgical Services team as a Surgical First Assist!

Are you an experienced surgical APP who thrives in the operating room? Join a collaborative, physician-led hospital where your expertise matters, your contributions are valued, and you can make a meaningful difference in patients' lives every day.

Our hospital features 12 operating rooms, 3 procedure rooms, and 28 inpatient beds. We perform surgeries across a variety of specialties, including Orthopedics, Spine, Gynecology, ENT, Digestive, Bariatric, and General Surgery. Our surgical schedule generally runs Monday through Friday, with minimal call for OR staff.

As a Surgical First Assist, you will work closely with surgeons and the perioperative team to deliver exceptional patient care throughout the surgical experience. This hands-on role includes providing intraoperative first assistance within your training, credentials, and approved privileges; supporting surgical exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure as appropriate; and contributing to safe, efficient surgical care. You will collaborate with surgeons and clinical colleagues on patient assessment, perioperative planning, documentation, and continuity of care as assigned.

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Current Idaho NP or PA licensure, as applicable, and appropriate national certification.
  • Eligibility for medical staff credentialing and surgical first-assist privileges at Northwest Specialty Hospital.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS certification as required for the position.
  • Prior operating room experience and demonstrated proficiency in surgical first assisting strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical anatomy, patient safety, and perioperative practices.
  • Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons and the entire surgical team.
  • Commitment to professional growth, high-quality patient care, and exceptional patient experiences.
