Job Summary – Correctional HealthThe Physician provides high-quality medical care to individuals housed in the Harris County Jail in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Responsibilities include performing intake health assessments, managing urgent care issues, diagnosing and treating chronic conditions, and collaborating with advanced practice providers.
This role works closely with nursing staff, correctional officers, and on-site services including radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services. The Physician may coordinate with the Harris Health Transfer Center or local hospitals when a higher level of care is required, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine
Must obtain board certification before board eligibility expires
Licensure & Certification:
Valid Texas Medical License
Active DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) License
Work Experience:
Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency program
