Job Description
This is a three year apprenticeship program, whereas the Apprentice will receive work experience and job related education, including safe work practices. During the apprenticeship, the Apprentice rotates throughout various Plastic-Extrusion Technician work processes, including but not limited to Production/Extrusion, Production set up and start up, Quality Control, Process Technology/Tool & Die, and Tooling Maintenance. The apprenticeship will also include training of processes in connection with maintenance, compound, lamination, and fabrication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Training on setting up and taking down extrusion lines (dies, cooling routes, puller, and saw).
- Training on operating extruders and start-up (controls, feeding systems, material processes).
- Training of extrusion line start-up as well as adjusting / trouble-shooting production lines to meet VEKA’s quality standards.
- Training in operating and adjusting of additional extrusion equipment (Co-Extruder, PCE Block, weather strip insertion, PVC soft gaskets)
- Captures and monitors technical data (sequence of operations and process results, process card, order, and BDE)
- Training on visual inspections and dimensional checks according to VEKA’s standards for Quality Control
- Training on all methods of packaging produced profiles according to VEKA’s packaging guidelines.
- Monitors profiles during extrusion process and makes process adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality.
- Satisfactorily fulfills theoretical training requirements (Postsecondary education)
- Practices safe work practices according to VEKA’s safety guidelines at all times.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Aptitude for mechanical processes
- Good verbal communications skills
- Passion for safety and quality
- Ability to handle multiple priorities through excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Accountability, assertiveness, dependability, and responsiveness are essential.
- Some computer skills such as Microsoft word and Excel
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent/Vocational School required
