Job Description
The position of Plastics Machine Operator is detail oriented and requires the worker to follow written, verbal and physically demonstrated procedure in starting, idling, tending, and cycling plastic injection molding machines. Operators observe the continuous function of machines to detect and, when appropriate, correct malfunctions. The Machine Operator may be required to place components into/and or remove parts from machine tools in a defined order and manner. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to trimming excess material from parts, electrical component testing, and light assembly. The individual filling this role will work closely with supervisors, co-workers, and technicians to ensure safe operation of equipment and produce quality parts within specified time standards. Attendance and punctuality are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reads workorders and follows verbal direction/physical demonstration to perform work required while meeting specified time standards.
- Verifies basic mold setup and machine program settings fundamental to safe operation of plastic injection molding machines and associated equipment.
- Checks parts for quality.
- Starts idled machines or assumes control of machines in operation at beginning of production shift. Performs machine shutdowns at end of production shift, or in preparation for tooling and material changeovers.
- Accurately records production data in both written and computerized format.
- Ensures proper labelling and performs inventory transactions of production components and finished parts.
- Maintains work environment safe for self, team members, machinery and tools.
- Assists fellow operators by tending machinery during breaks and lunches as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of surrounding work areas.
- Communicates with supervisors, leads, co-workers, and technicians regarding status of ongoing work
