Plate Refinisher

Creates and/or refinishes press plates using peening, glass beading, grinding, and buffing equipment as required. Inspects textured plates using appropriate equipment to ensure they meet specifications such as thickness, physical dimensions, squareness and plate hardness. Determines suitable use for plates. Troubleshoots equipment. Performs other tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates all functions of the shot peeners, glass beaders, grinder, and buffer
• Makes adjustments to machines and/or replaces worn parts
• Provides equipment training and/or coordinates equipment cross-training for team members
• Knows capabilities of all equipment that supports the plate creation and refinishing processes
• General knowledge for trouble shooting and preventive maintenance. Observant of any mechanical or electrical breakdown
• Ability to take steps as required ensuring process is operational
• Understands the importance of cleanliness as required by process
• Can identify with 100% accuracy all expectations of job
• Reviews schedules, specifications and priorities to plan plate handling activities in the area
• Assists in troubleshooting and resolving problems and advises foreman/supervisor of complex problems
• Facilitates meetings for lean, quality, safety and goals
• Assists foreman with organization of daily tasks for plate refinishing team members and oversees department activities as needed
• Performs the Backup Foreman position as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Ability to read a tape measure
• Ability to follow written procedures
• Skilled in a mechanical background to work on equipment
• Ability to work as a team member
• Ability to identify texture plate finishes
• Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize databases and spreadsheets
• Skilled in verbal and written/digital communication, including tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers and employees
• Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the area of work and other pertinent rules/regulations governing work standards
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices
• Skilled in organizing and prioritizing tasks

EDUCATION: Associate Degree Required or equivalent combination of education and experience; 1yr experience may substitute for 1yr of degree

Vocational degree in a related field

One additional year of experience may substitute for one year of required education with a maximum substitution of two years

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years

Must have held Sr. Plate Refinisher position for one year

WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking/pushing/climbing and lifting material or equipment of heavy weight (>50 lbs) Examples: grounds staff and EMS

ENVIRONMENT: Located in an environment with regular exposure to fumes or odors, temperature extremes, or loud noises which cause noticeable discomfort or moderate risk of accident or illness. Examples: engineering, waste mgt, laundry workers and yards/grounds staff
