We are currently seeking an experienced Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing team in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.
Position Overview
As a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer, you will lead the design and oversight of HVAC, plumbing, pumping, and fire protection systems for a variety of facilities projects. This role involves design leadership, construction-phase services, and client collaboration, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all applicable codes and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- HVAC & Fire Protection Design: Develop engineering solutions for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Engineering Calculations: Perform load calculations, hydraulic pressure drop analyses, and plumbing pipe sizing.
- Design Documentation: Convert design concepts into working drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Construction Phase Support: Provide technical guidance and oversight during construction.
- Client Collaboration: Interface with clients to clarify requirements, resolve challenges, and deliver engineering expertise.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with International Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Codes, NFPA 13, ASME B31.1/31.9, and SMACNA duct standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Engineering from an accredited institution
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 10 years of experience in plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC system design
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
- Strong knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, and hydronic piping systems
- Familiarity with Building, Fire, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fuel Gas Codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with facility projects, design, and construction-phase services
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with commercial and industrial facilities projects
- Strong understanding of hydronic systems, pumps, and fire sprinkler systems
- Familiarity with design-build and conventional project delivery methods
- Ability to conduct site visits and inspections in various conditions
- Experience coordinating with cross-disciplinary engineering teams
