Job Description
Position Summary:
The City of Independence is seeking seasonal Pool Maintenance staff to work under the city's Parks & Recreation Department from Friday, May 1, 2026 – Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The City of Independence Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming, facilities, and service while improving the quality of life within our community.
The primary responsibility of City of Independence Pool Maintenance staff is to perform routine maintenance and cleaning of all Recreation Department Aquatic facilities including pools, pool decks, buildings, locker rooms, and all bathrooms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regular testing and maintaining pool water chemistry to appropriate health code standards,
- Daily cleaning duties which include vacuuming, skimming and brushing pools, cleaning/scrubbing pool decks, cleaning and around pool buildings/locker rooms, emptying trash, moving/restocking supplies.

Requirements:
- Must pass a drug test and background check.
- Must possess at least a high-school diploma.
- Must be able to work the following types of shifts throughout the term the entire 7-day week:
- 7:00am – 12:00pm
- 12:00pm – 5:00pm
- 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move in and around a pool deck for extended periods of time.
- Ability to enter, exit, and work safely in a swimming pool, at any time while on duty.
- Maintain vigilance and fast reaction times.
- Tolerance for exposure to warm, humid, and chlorinated pool environments for extended periods.
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat and lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under typical Ohio Weather conditions.

Salary Information:
- The pay range for this role is $12.00 - $14.00/per hour.
- Staff who return for consecutive seasons are eligible for pay raises.
- Staff receive paid training in this role, as well.
