The POS Trade Path
The Point of Sale (POS) Trade path at Hames Corporation is a specialized technical path focused on the "Digital DNA" of our retail operations. This is a role for data architects who manage the critical bridge between inventory, advertising, and gross margin. You are the guardians of pricing integrity, ensuring that the promise made to the guest on the shelf is kept at the register across all five Hames locations.
You Will Be
- The Data Architect: You are a specialist in technical precision, mastering the backend of our POS systems to manage thousands of unique SKUs and complex pricing tiers.
- The Margin Guardian: You are the frontline authority on price integrity, auditing vendor cost-changes and promotional cycles to protect the fiscal health of the corporation.
- The Logistical Sync: You are a high-energy technical professional who coordinates advertising strategy and shelf-edge labeling, ensuring every storefront represents the Hames "Gold Standard."
What You Will Do (Skilled Clerk - Entry Trade)
- Mastery of Tag Execution: Execute the high-volume production and placement of shelf-edge labels and/or promotional signage across all store departments.
- SKU Maintenance: Manage foundational data entry for new items and price updates, ensuring 100% accuracy in the "Batch" before posting.
- Promotion Synchronization: Coordinate with store leads and POS management to ensure sales and weekly advertisements are active and accurate at the register.
- Pricing Audits: Conduct regular shelf-to-register audits to identify and resolve discrepancies, maintaining the trust of our community.
- System Wayfinding: Act as a technical guide for floor staff, troubleshooting basic register errors and assisting with price-check resolutions.
Advanced Responsibilities (Apprentice Clerk & Journeyman Clerk)
Internal promotions to these levels are based on operational need and labor budgeting including age restriction location. Candidates with prior comparable experience may be identified for these tracks.
Apprentice (Level 2):Transitional Trade. Requires age 21+. Advances to managing age-restricted pricing (Liquor/Tobacco), executing complex multi-buy promotional logic, and conducting margin-variance investigations.
Journeyman (Level 3):Master Trade. Requires age 21+. The master-level data anchor. Possesses total proficiency in POS backend architecture, acting as the department authority on corporate pricing strategy and gross margin protection.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of technical data entry or retail-backend experience. Applicants must demonstrate a readiness to transition from basic clerical work to the skilled technical requirements of retail data management.
- Age Requirement: Skilled Level (18+) / Apprentice & Journeyman (21+). Higher trade levels require entry into age-restricted areas and management of liquor/tobacco pricing data.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel) and a high aptitude for mastering complex database systems (Dynamics GP/POS).
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Technical Mobility: Ability to stand/walk, kneel/reach for 4-8 hours shifts while performing shelf-audits and navigating between the corporate office and various storefronts.
- Visual Precision: High-acuity requirement for reading small-print labels, verifying barcodes, and performing intensive on-screen data entry.
- Manual Dexterity: Precision hand-eye coordination for high-speed labeling and technical troubleshooting.
Pay Transparency
- Pay Range: $17.50 - $20.50 hourly. (Starting rates vary by trade level and documented technical experience).
- Overtime: This is an hourly position subject to Alaska's 8-hour daily overtime laws.
