The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Orthopedics has an exciting opportunity for a temporary Post Doctoral Associate. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

  1. Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

  2. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

  3. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

  5. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

  6. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Job Summary

The Clinical and Translational Research Scholar is a temporary academic position designed for recent medical school graduates seeking advanced research experience and supervised clinical exposure prior to entering graduate medical education. Under the mentorship of Department faculty, the Scholar participates in translational and clinical research initiatives, contributes to scholarly activities, and gains educational exposure to orthopaedic clinical practice through supervised experiences in the outpatient clinic and operating room. The Scholar does not function as a resident physician and does not independently diagnose, treat, or manage patients.

Core Job Functions

  • Participates in translational and clinical research projects under the direction of Department faculty.

  • Assists with study development, literature reviews, protocol preparation, IRB/FDA documentation, data collection, and regulatory submissions.

  • Supports preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and grant applications.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary research meetings with faculty, residents, fellows, and research staff.

  • Attends Grand Rounds, tumor boards, journal clubs, and other educational activities.

  • Participates in supervised educational experiences in the outpatient clinic and operating room.

  • Observes patient evaluations, surgical procedures, and multidisciplinary care under direct faculty supervision and institutional policies.

  • Maintains professionalism, research integrity, HIPAA compliance, and confidentiality.

  • Maintains accurate research records and complies with University and departmental policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental research, education, and academic initiatives.

Core Qualifications

Education

M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.

Certification and Licensing

Florida Graduate Assistant Physician (GAP) License. BLS certification preferred.

Experience

Recent medical school graduate with demonstrated interest in orthopaedic surgery, musculoskeletal oncology, regenerative medicine, or translational research. Prior research experience preferred.

Department Addendum

Department Specific Functions

  • Participate in the Department of Orthopaedics stem cell research collaboration under the mentorship of Dr. Hornicek, Dr. Hare, Dr. Rizzo, and collaborating investigators.

  • Assist with FDA regulatory submissions and research compliance activities.

  • Coordinate meetings and communications among collaborating faculty.

  • Participate in supervised educational experiences with Dr. Hornicek and designated faculty in the clinic and operating room.

  • Collaborate with residents and fellows to support departmental research initiatives.

Assist with research data analysis, manuscript preparation, and scholarly presentations
