Organization:

ID Residency Program

Job Summary:

Vanderbilt University Hospital offers a 52-week PGY-2 Infectious Disease residency in which residents will gain experience in all areas of ID pharmacotherapy with an emphasis on clinical practice and antimicrobial stewardship.

The purpose of the PGY2 Infectious Diseases pharmacy residency is to develop and refine clinical, leadership, research management, quality assurance, and teaching skills within the practice of infectious disease.

PGY2 residencies provide residents with the opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings.

Upon completion of the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency, graduates should be well-prepared to pursue board certification (BCIDP) and to enter clinical practice as an infectious disease's clinical specialist, associate or affiliate clinical faculty member, or to pursue infectious diseases fellowship training.

Residents are expected to obtain unrestricted licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee by July 31st of their residency year. Residents who are not fully licensed by this date may have modifications to their scheduled responsibilities. Failure to obtain licensure by October 1st will result in termination from the residency program and termination from employment at VUMC, unless licensure is anticipated within 120 days after the program start date. A final written warning will be issued to the resident if not fully licensed within the resident's first 90 days of employment. Verification of licensure occurs in accordance with VUMC policy (Pharmacy Policy- Pharmacy Residency Program Standards v.6 (policytech.com)). Until residents obtain unrestricted licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee, all job functions will be supervised by a licensed pharmacist.
