Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Summary:

Drs Liyen Loh and Paul Norman in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology and Department of Biomedical Informatics respectively, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in innate-like and/or T lymphocyte biology. The ideal candidate will also have experience or a strong interest in investigating how variations in immune responses influence susceptibility to, and severity of, infectious and autoimmune diseases.

The postdoctoral scientist will develop a research plan surrounding the development, optimization, and validation of protocols to measure human innate-like lymphocyte functions. The postdoctoral scientist will both analyze existing data to define and understand the immunology of autoimmune disorders including colitis and multiple sclerosis in the context of infections including EBV and CMV. To test hypotheses, they will generate new data as needed. Analyzed data will be used in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts. There is a strong emphasis on manuscript preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

Percent effort in this role is as follows:

70% Perform Primary Research

  • Participate in the design and initiation of research projects

  • Independently carry out literature reviews, analysis, and interpretation of results with guidance from the PI

  • Collaborate with the PI, other members of the lab, and local and international collaborators

  • Maintain transparent and easy to follow documentation of research projects from start to finish, including reproducible and sharable code.

15% Communicate ideas and findings

  • Present research in progress at lab meetings, project meetings, and individual PI meetings

  • Submit abstracts and present results at local, national and international conferences

  • Write and publish manuscripts

  • Actively pursue fellowship awards and assist the PI in grant writing

5% Train and Mentor

  • Write and share workflows and protocols

  • Train graduate students and research associates

5% Administrative Duties

  • Complete required research trainings

  • Perform general administrative duties as requested by the PI

5% Career Development

  • Attend career development seminars and networking events

  • Complete an Individualized Development Plan (IDP) to be discussed with the PI annually

  • Keep CV up to date

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD in biological sciences with emphasis on immunology and/or host-pathogen interactions

  • Proficiency in scientific communication with evidence of first author manuscript(s) in peer-reviewed journals and oral presentation(s) at local or inter(national) conferences upon or following completion of your PhD.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of innate-like lymphocyte and/or viral immunology research experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in developing laboratory methods to study cellular immunology in vitro

  • Experience in ex vivo cellular and humoral immunology assays

  • Experience with high-resolution flow cytometry

  • Ability to use existing bioinformatics protocols (e.g. for single cell data)

  • Experience in cell culture, cloning, retroviral transduction and molecular biology

  • Interest in the diversity of human populations and anthropology

  • Experience in R, Python, and/or a comparable programming language, preferably in a High-Performance Cluster Unix computing environment

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$62,652 or commensurate with postdoc experience

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
