The collaboration team includes Clarence Chang, Tim Hobbs, Dafei Jin, Yi Li, Marharyta Lisovenko, Valentine Novosad, Zain Saleem, Tanner Trickle, and Gensheng Wang.

We seek highly qualified candidates to conduct theoretical research on dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model, with a particular emphasis on opportunities enabled by novel quantum magnonics technologies.

Candidates should have demonstrated interest and expertise at the interface of high energy physics, dark matter phenomenology, condensed matter physics, and quantum information science.

In addition to the core research program, the ideal candidate will have broad interests in one or more of the following areas: high energy physics, astrophysics, collider phenomenology, or cosmology. The successful candidate is expected to engage scientifically with researchers in the HEP groups at both Argonne and UIUC, building overlapping and complementary research efforts.

This advertisement is for a three-year postdoctoral position in theoretical high energy physics (HEP), jointly hosted by Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026.

Position Requirements

  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in physics or a closely related field

  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

Application materials should include:

  • Cover Letter

  • Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications

  • Research statement outlining interests in relation to the advertised position

  • Qualified candidates will be asked to provide three letters of reference

For full consideration, please apply at your earliest convenience. The position will remain open until filled.

If you have any questions you may email Tim Hobbs at tim@anl.gov.

The successful candidate will divide their time between Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The specific arrangement of time at each institution will be determined in consultation with the hiring committee and the candidate.
