The applicant is expected to apply novel methods for vaccine design that include bioinformatics analysis, cloning, synthesis of in vitro transcribed RNA, and design and manipulation of viral vectors. The work will involve in vitro experiments as well as in vivo experiments using rodent models, embryonated eggs, and poultry. The in vivo studies require animal handling and processing of clinical and necropsy specimens in a timely and efficient manner. The incumbent will be required to carry out part of the work in a BSL-3/ABSL-3 laboratory. Other complementary projects encompassing reverse genetics of RNA viruses (rotavirus, areriviruses, and coronaviruses) to understand viral pathogenesis and vaccine development will be available either as independent projects or collaboratively with other members of the team. There is ample opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team having expertise in the areas of cellular and molecular pathology, genomics and transcriptomics, molecular virology, and viral pathogenesis.
20% - The incumbent is required to timely analyze data, properly store and manage generated data, write manuscripts to be published in peer reviewed journals, prepare scientific abstracts to present at scientific meetings, contribute to grant applications developed by the PI, and also the candidate will contribute to maintain the work environment in the laboratory by complying with all biosafety training and policies, and overall organization of the laboratory including ordering supplies for experiments, maintaining inventories and monitoring laboratory equipment.
