Job Description:

We seek a postdoctoral associate to work at the interface of spectral theory, quantum materials, and quantum information at the Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) at Louisiana State University. The position is jointly mentored by Stephen Shipman (Mathematics) and Justin Wilson (Physics & Astronomy) and embedded in a multi-institution collaboration of mathematicians and physicists.

The postdoc will develop mathematical theory and methods for emergent quantum states in layered media-such as bound states in the continuum (BICs)-with applications to quantum materials and technology. Research may include analytical and numerical spectral methods, momentum- and real-space analysis, and connections between spectral structure, topology, and quantum degrees of freedom. Research directions will be shaped jointly by the postdoc and mentors.

The position offers a strong interdisciplinary environment, opportunities for collaborative publications, and the chance to build an independent research profile at the mathematics-physics interface.

Job Responsibilities:

Research and Development: Developing analytical tools and theorems to inform physics and realistic material design; Momentum-space and real-space analyses and algebra; Building numerical spectral methods informed by rigorous theorems; Connections between spectral structure, topology, and quantum degrees of freedom (65%)

Collaboration: Work with faculty, students, and external partners on interdisciplinary initiatives aimed at applications in quantum materials and technologies; contribute to joint problem-solving and co-mentorship of graduate students. (20%)

Dissemination: Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and presentations at national/international conferences. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.

This position is well-suited for mathematically inclined physicists or physics-oriented mathematicians seeking to work on foundational problems in quantum materials.
