Job Description:

The Moreira lab is a new group at LSU-Baton Rouge that officially started in August 2024 after years of research in Microbial pathogenesis at UNESP. We seek a talented, motivated, and committed individual interested in being part of this exciting stage. In this position, you can significantly impact Science by setting up a new lab and research program at the University while creating a collaborative environment. Our research focuses on microbe-host interactions and chemical signaling to understand new mechanisms and development of future treatments for bacterial diseases. The postdoc primary responsibilities include performing independent research in Molecular microbiology, and working with Under- and Grad. Students. Experience in research laboratory routine with distinct projects, proficiency in Microbiology methodologies, essential molecular biology assays, high organization skills, and scientific writing. The work will involve independent academic work, leading our group to understand new mechanisms and develop future treatments for bacterial diseases, linked to oncology cases. Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas.

Duties Include:

50% Conduct research with 16S RNA analysis in gut microbial communities from patients in different stages of colon rectal cancer (CRC), with analysis of microbiota compositions and metabolites.

35% Design and perform assays in Microbiology, basic bacterial cultures, sterilization protocols, keep cell cultures, in vitro and in vivo experiments related to host-microbe interaction, mice infections, perform molecular experiments such as lambda red mutagenesis, protein recombinant constructions, general DNA and RNA extraction/analysis, protein analysis, genomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, and other necessary research experience i needed to study microbial pathogenesis and bacterial chemical communication.

15% Guide and organize training with new Laboratory personal both students and researchers, assist other lab members and projects in the laboratory, help on experimental preparation, data analysis, and writing on distinct scientific communication formats such as articles, posters, and novel protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Biological Science, Biomedical or related with 1-2 years in Sciences, with emphasis in Microbiology.

Specific experience in general microbiology experience with bacterial cultures, sterilization protocols, keep cell cultures lines, in vitro and in vivo experiments related to host-microbe interaction, perform molecular experiments such as lambda red mutagenesis, protein recombinant constructions, general DNA and RNA extraction/analysis, protein analysis, genomics and related methods in Microbial pathogenesis.

Emergency Essential Personnel: This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

Proficient in the following job competencies:

Basic Microbiology methods and Basic molecular biology methods.

Advanced in the following job competencies:

Managing different research projects, Personal skills and Scientific knowledge.
