Job Summary:We are looking for a principal harness design engineer to innovate on the next generation of HPM products. You will own the full life cycle for harness design, from leading systems level design guidelines to executing through harness build & integration. This multi-disciplinary role will have you designing novel harnessing solutions for a variety of platforms in a rapid development environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and execution of electrical harness architectures for HPM systems
  • Develop detailed harness designs from systems-level requirements / constraints
  • Lead systems-level harness guidance for high-EMI systems, such as shielding strategies, grounding approaches, power distribution layout and signal pathing
  • Evaluate and specify components such as connectors, wiring / cables, strain relief features and shield termination hardware
  • Create, release and maintain harness documentation packages such as system block diagrams, interconnect schematics, 3D CAD routing models and production drawings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define harness requirements, ensuring alignment between stakeholders such as engineering, production, quality and product management
  • Provide engineering support to select and manage vendors to manufacture and assemble designed parts
  • Support rapid development cycles, including prototyping, deployment, and continuous improvement
  • Support build and test phases, including harness quality inspections and on-site troubleshooting

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years designing interconnect systems for harsh-environment applications such as defense, aerospace or industrial platforms
  • Proficiency in interpreting / working from wiring diagrams and interconnect documentation
  • Experience with designing harness systems that are optimized for voltage drop, thermal performance, component derating, EMI effects and interference / crosstalk.
  • Experience with Altium Harness Design or similar harness design software package (Zuken, Siemens Capital, CATIA Electrical, etc...)
  • Familiarity with requirements for cable and harness design, fabrication, inspection, and acceptance in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, SAE AS50881 and/or NASA-STD-8739.4
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and common engineering drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Working familiarity with communication standards and data buses (e.g., Ethernet, CAN, RS-422)
  • Experience with High Voltage / 3-Phase AC Design
  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with harness assembly
  • Comfort with creating harness test procedures / verification processes
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and associated harsh environmental considerations

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. 

For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:

$154,100 - $179,800USD
