Job Description

We are SLR Consulting (Americas), a 1500+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada, the United States, and LATAM. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. Role

SLR is seeking a Principal Geologist, Scientist, or Engineer, to join our growing Land Quality & Remediation practice in either our Anchorage or Fairbanks office.

Responsibilities:

Practice Growth & Client Development

  • Grow and expand a portfolio of work through both existing SLR relationships and your own professional network

  • Build lasting client relationships founded on trust, responsiveness, and technical excellence

  • Lead proposal development, project scoping, and pricing strategies

  • Identify new opportunities, markets, and service offerings

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge or senior technical lead on complex environmental projects

  • Provide strategic oversight for investigation, remediation, and regulatory programs

  • Guide and review technical deliverables, including work plans, investigation reports, feasibility studies, risk assessments, and remediation designs

  • Leverage expertise from across SLR's global network to develop innovative, practical solutions for clients

  • Promote a culture of technical quality, continuous improvement, and professional excellence

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a talented, and collaborative team

  • Support professional development and career growth for staff at all levels

  • Help attract, recruit, and retain top talent

Business & Operations

  • Operate in a seller-doer capacity with flexibility based on your strengths and interests

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and overall performance

  • Contribute to strategic planning and practice development

  • Support operational excellence and delivery of high-quality client service

  • The salary range for this position is $130,000-170,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications:

  • 10 to 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including project, client, and staff leadership. Alaska work preferred.

  • Strong technical background in environmental investigation and remediation involving soil, groundwater, vapor, and sediment and associated waste management.

  • Strong working knowledge of CERCLA, TSCA and RCRA and Alaska-specific environmental regulations, and familiarity with Alaska's regulatory environment.

  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining client relationships.

  • Experience leading or supporting business development efforts, proposals, and client engagements.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for growing a practice

  • Passion for mentoring and developing others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental or Civil Engineering, or related field.

  • Alaska Civil or Environmental Professional Engineer license, Registered or Certified Geologist

  • Hazardous waste management experience is a plus, particularly in industrial, environmental, or regulatory settings.

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification

  • Existing relationships within industrial, real estate, energy, municipal, or redevelopment sectors

  • Experience in Arctic, sub-Arctic, or remote operating environments

  • Experience preparing Storm Water Pollution Plans and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans

  • Experience working in highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
