Job Description

Full-Time Private Educator for an 8th-Grade Student

Summerlin, Nevada | $55,000–$65,000 | Full-Time W-2 Position

Overview

Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional full-time Private Educator to provide personalized, one-to-one instruction for an 8th-grade student in Summerlin, Nevada. This is an opportunity to build upon an established private education program and make a meaningful difference in the life of a student who benefits from individualized attention, engaging instruction, and a strong relationship with his teacher.

The ideal educator will combine warmth and patience with consistency, structure, and high expectations. This student needs a teacher who can meet him where he is academically while helping him develop greater confidence, independence, stamina, and ownership of his learning.

This is a professional teaching position—not a tutoring, nanny, or household assistant role. The educator will be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive, personalized educational program with support and guidance from Thrive Education Partners.

About the Student

The student is a personable and capable young teenager entering 8th grade. He enjoys video games, e-bikes, dirt biking, spending time with friends, history, current events, and hands-on learning. He is respectful, wants to do well, and responds especially well when he feels successful and connected to the purpose behind his work.

He has significant ADHD-related needs and benefits from:

  • Short, focused instructional blocks
  • Frequent movement and brain breaks
  • Clear routines and manageable expectations
  • Calm, consistent redirection
  • Multisensory and hands-on instruction
  • Real-world applications of academic concepts
  • Encouragement that builds confidence without lowering expectations
  • A trusting relationship with an educator who understands that progress may not always be linear

The student has academic gaps that require targeted support, particularly in mathematics and language arts, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and writing. Instruction should also incorporate science, social studies, economics, health, executive-function skills, and interest-based electives or projects when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

The Private Educator will:

  • Plan and deliver individualized instruction across core 8th-grade subject areas
  • Assess the student’s current skills and identify specific academic strengths and gaps
  • Provide targeted remediation while continuing to introduce appropriate grade-level content
  • Break larger tasks into clear, achievable steps
  • Use multisensory, project-based, and experiential teaching strategies
  • Connect learning to the student’s interests and everyday life
  • Incorporate movement, technology, games, local outings, and hands-on projects when instructionally appropriate
  • Support executive-function development, including organization, planning, task initiation, persistence, and time management
  • Establish consistent routines while remaining flexible and responsive to the student’s daily needs
  • Build the student’s confidence and help him develop a stronger identity as a capable learner
  • Track academic progress and adjust instruction based on student performance
  • Maintain lesson plans, progress notes, work samples, and other appropriate educational records
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with the parent and Thrive Education Partners
  • Collaborate with Thrive’s educational management team regarding curriculum, progress, and instructional priorities

Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday
  • 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. direct work schedule
  • Additional paid professional time will be dedicated to lesson planning, curriculum preparation, progress monitoring, communication, and educational documentation
  • Position begins as soon as possible--pending employment contract, background and professional reference checks.

Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a relationship-driven educator who can connect authentically with a teenager while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations. This individual should understand that motivation and confidence are closely connected to academic performance and should be able to encourage the student without creating unnecessary pressure or power struggles.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching middle school students, particularly in a one-to-one or small-group setting
  • A strong understanding of ADHD and its impact on attention, motivation, executive functioning, and academic performance
  • Skill in providing academic intervention or remediation in mathematics and language arts
  • The ability to balance structure, flexibility, warmth, and accountability
  • Confidence differentiating curriculum for a student working across multiple instructional levels
  • Creativity in designing engaging, relevant, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Patience, emotional steadiness, and the ability to redirect without escalating frustration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professionalism, dependability, discretion, and respect for family privacy
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to receive guidance and feedback

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Degree in education, special education, mathematics, English, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Current or previous teaching license preferred
  • Middle school teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting students with ADHD, executive-function challenges, or learning gaps required
  • Experience with structured literacy, dyslexia-informed instruction, or evidence-based academic intervention is a plus
  • Ability to pass all required background and reference checks
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to work consistently in Summerlin

Benefits

Compensation and Employment

  • $55,000–$65,000 annually, based on education and experience
  • Full-time W-2 employment through Thrive Education Partners
  • Year-round professional position
  • Health insurance benefits available
