Job Description

Role Overview

We’re looking for a thoughtful, experienced Special Education Teacher to provide individualized, one-on-one instruction to students with a wide range of ages, disabilities, and learning needs across Davidson and Williamson Counties. This role is centered on helping each student make meaningful progress toward family-established goals while addressing specific academic and developmental deficit areas.

You’ll have the opportunity to build instruction around the individual student rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum. The right educator will bring strong special education expertise, flexibility, and a genuine ability to connect with students and families. This is a W-2 part-time position starting at approximately 10–12 hours per week, with opportunities to accept additional hours and increase your workload as desired.

Compensation: $60–$90/hour, based on experience and credentials.

Student Profile

You may work with students across a broad range of ages and learning profiles, including students with ADHD, dyslexia and literacy needs, autism, anxiety, executive functioning challenges, multiple disabilities, assistive-technology needs, and other learning differences.

Because every placement is different, you’ll need to understand how a particular student learns best and adapt your approach accordingly. You may support academic skill development, address learning gaps, provide enrichment, strengthen executive functioning, or reinforce and extend goals identified through a student’s existing IEP outside of school.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide individualized, one-on-one special education instruction based on each student’s learning profile, goals, strengths, and needs.
  • Design and adapt instruction, curriculum, lessons, and learning materials to meet the student where they are.
  • Address academic skill gaps while also providing appropriate enrichment and opportunities for continued growth.
  • Support a range of learning and developmental needs, including executive functioning, literacy, attention, organization, and other areas identified by the family.
  • Reinforce and extend relevant IEP goals outside of the school environment without assuming responsibility for IEP development or management.
  • Use flexible, responsive teaching strategies that reflect each student’s unique learning style.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about progress, observations, challenges, and instructional recommendations.
  • Travel to assigned job sites throughout Davidson and Williamson Counties and manage instruction professionally within each family setting.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

  • You are a certified special education teacher who understands that effective instruction starts with knowing the individual student.
  • You can adapt your teaching style, pace, materials, and strategies to different learning profiles and needs.
  • You are patient, encouraging, and skilled at helping students experience both academic progress and greater confidence.
  • You communicate clearly and proactively with parents and value the family as an important partner in the student’s education.
  • You are comfortable working independently and bringing sound professional judgment to different student and family environments.
  • You have the flexibility and curiosity to work effectively with a wide range of ages, disabilities, and learning needs.

Logistics & Compensation

  • Position: Private Special Education Teacher
  • Employment Type: W-2, part-time
  • Starting Schedule: Approximately 10–12 hours per week (opportunities to accept additional student hours/placements)
  • Compensation: $60–$90/hour, based on experience and credentials
  • Location: Job sites throughout Davidson and Williamson Counties
  • Travel: Local travel between assigned job sites is required
  • Certification: Special education certification required
  • Experience: At least 1 year of relevant classroom, teaching, and/or tutoring experience
  • Start Date: To be determined

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to do the kind of individualized work that can be difficult to create within a traditional classroom. You’ll have the chance to understand a student deeply, shape instruction around how they learn, and see the impact of your work over time.

For educators who value flexibility and meaningful student relationships, the role offers a part-time W-2 starting point with the ability to take on additional hours. You’ll work with different students and learning profiles while bringing your special education expertise directly to the students and families who need it.
