A Day in the Life of an Occupational Therapist
As an OT, you play a vital role in helping patients improve mobility, function, and independence. Your responsibilities include:
- Evaluating patient functional levels and collaborating with physicians to develop individualized plans of care
- Preparing clinical notes, progress notes, and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards
- Providing therapeutic treatments and interventions based on the plan of care
- Consulting with families and agency staff to support patient goals
- Participating in in‑service programs and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Assessing equipment needs and ensuring patients receive appropriate assistive devices
- Reviewing and revising plans of care as needed (at least every 60 days)
- Practicing infection control and universal precautions
- Reporting suspected abuse according to state and federal guidelines
- Planning for patient discharge and evaluating treatment effectiveness

Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program
- OR eligibility for the national registration exam
- OR at least 2 years of OT experience with a satisfactory proficiency exam
- CPR certification within 60 days of hire
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
