Outline of Role:

The mission of the Process Engineer - Shift Technical Support is to utilize sound engineering principles to safely create, qualify, maintain and continuously improve the processes, facilities and equipment needed to deliver our product pipeline across batch and continuous API production and development. These results are accomplished by utilizing various elements of the engineering discipline including, but not limited to: first principles, lean manufacturing, and simulation/modeling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of issues related to the process, unit operations and equipment, including supporting systems such as CIP (clean in place), utilities, solvent supply and waste systems

  • Collaborate cross functionally with QA, TSMS, Operations, Automation, EHS, Automation, Utilities to ensure robust impact assessments are developed & documented in combination with troubleshooting & decision-making efforts to maintain reliable supply of quality medicine.

  • Provide process engineering support in batch or continuous API platforms through application of chemical engineering fundamentals.

  • Monitor, assess, and document equipment performance to maintain ongoing qualification.

  • Develop and maintain the basis of safety for process equipment.

  • Integrate mechanistic modelling, process simulation, and analysis into current and future processes to enhance process understanding and control.

  • Utilize root cause analysis techniques to investigate process and equipment issues and deliver robust and sustainable corrective and preventative actions.

  • Share learning and knowledge across business functions and units through the publication of technical reports and presentation of project results.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical, Bioprocess, Mechanical, or Process Engineering

  • Requirement to work on 12-hour night shifts (i.e. 3pm-3am) on a 4 day on, 4 day off schedule with adjustments to shift schedule as required for business requirements.

  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing and PSM (process safety management) environments.

  • Ability to work independently, self-sufficiently, and pro-actively in the performance of work duties.

  • Ability to resolve conflict and promote good decision making among team members

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Ability to work within and lead diverse, multi-functional teams (i.e. engineering, manufacturing operations, TS/MS, etc.).

  • Demonstrated problem solving, project management, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Analysis and PC skills including appropriate modeling and math capabilities

  • Ability to identify and resolve issues with minimal direction.

  • Potential willingness to accept a 6-month Short Term Assignment in Kinsale, Ireland during the first year training period.

Additional Information:

  • Once night shift commences, a 12% shift differential will be added to base wages.

  • First year of role will be a training period and include standard day shift M-F work until shift support is needed during plant start-up activities.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$66,000 - $171,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
