The global regulatory landscape impacting the design, manufacturing, distribution, and end-of-life management of consumer products continues to evolve rapidly. The Product Compliance Manager will play a critical role in ensuring 5.11's products meet applicable regulatory, safety, and sustainability requirements across domestic and international markets.
This position is responsible for monitoring emerging regulations, driving compliance initiatives, and overseeing ongoing adherence to existing regulatory requirements. The role partners closely with Product Development, Sourcing, Quality, and Legal teams to support compliance efforts related to product safety, chemical and material restrictions, supply chain transparency, labeling, and extended producer responsibility (EPR).
What You'll Do:
- Ensure compliance with the company's product safety and quality standards and requirements.
- Collaborate with designers, production, and sourcing personnel to execute the company's product compliance program.
- Conduct periodic product category reviews for compliance.
- Stay current on changing industry standards, regulations and trends.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvement, update company policies, standards and procedures as needed, and investigate and report on assessments, inquiries and discrepancies.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure products comply with all relevant federal, state (including California), and international regulations (e.g., labeling, flammability, chemical restrictions).
- Monitor and interpret evolving regulations such as Proposition 65, CPSIA, and FTC labeling requirements.
- Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and documentation.
Product Testing & Certification
- Oversee product testing programs (e.g., fabric, trims, chemical testing).
- Partner with third-party labs to ensure timely and accurate testing.
- Maintain records of compliance certifications and test reports.
Supplier & Factory Compliance
- Work closely with Sourcing compliance manager suppliers and manufacturers to communicate compliance requirements to suppliers and manufacturers.
- Evaluate vendor compliance capabilities and support corrective action plans when needed.
- Conduct or coordinate factory audits related to product safety and compliance.
Labeling & Packaging
- Ensure all product labeling (care labels, country of origin, fiber content) meets regulatory requirements.
- Review packaging for environmental and legal compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Development, Design, and Sourcing teams early in the development process to mitigate compliance risks.
- Train internal teams on compliance standards and best practices.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Identify compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Lead investigations and resolution of compliance issues, including recalls if necessary.
- Prepare regular compliance reports for leadership.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a product compliance manager within a corporate compliance department.
- In-depth knowledge of consumer product and apparel supply chain regulations, including EPR regulations, supply chain transparency regulations (e.g., UFLPA and DPP), safety regulations (e.g., CPSIA), and chemical standards (e.g., REACH and Prop 65).
- Experience with case/project management and business processes/systems.
- Experience working with testing labs and certification processes.
- Familiarity with sustainability standards (e.g., OEKO-TEX, REACH).
- Experience with PLM systems and compliance tracking tools.
- Certification in compliance or regulatory affairs (a plus).
Computer Skills:
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft office suite.
- Advanced data reporting, pivot table and database skills with Excel.
Pay Range: $100,000-$120,000 annually plus bonus based on experience
