Job Description
Description: As a Product Design Engineer, you are considered a go-to expert in one area within Product Design, demonstrating engineering expertise through user - or consumer-focused product influence in multiple cross-functional areas. You participate in a greater team initiative (e.g., publishing technical documents, creating/improving processes/standards, teaching design classes). You own a user or consumer product design area/material/component/system of high complexity, or several user or consumer product design areas/components/systems of moderate complexity. Note: In accordance with regional legislation, in certain locations the job title for this role might be 'Developer' or 'Consultant' rather than 'Engineer'. Responsibilities include: - Considered a "go-to" expert in one area within Product Design. Demonstrate engineering expertise through user - or consumer-focused product influence in multiple cross-functional areas (e.g., RF, Antenna, EE, Sensor, Materials Science, Operations, CM Processes, Sustainability). - Apply engineering fundamentals, analyze data, and implement findings at the product level. May solve complex mission-critical issues. - Demonstrates Design expertise through user or consumer-focused product influence in an aesthetic area (e.g., Industrial Design, User Experience, Graphical Artwork, Human Factors, CMF, usability/serviceability) where applicable. - Execute work independently, identify and communicate program roadblocks. - Provide guidance to and may mentor junior engineers. Actively participate in design reviews and knowledge sharing. - Regularly demonstrate unique/innovative system-level solutions. - Demonstrate deep technical knowledge in multiple areas to deliver high-quality and reliable mass-production user or consumer products (e.g., sheet metal, machining, anodization, injection molding, coatings, raw materials, packaging, thermals, FEA). - May present to management and cross-functional management. - Anticipate and address product design issues or risks. Ensure validation of product design and implement design improvement. - Find and solve urgent cross-functional, time-dependent issues. May act as drive for cross-functional effort. - Participate in a greater team initiative (e.g., publishing technical documents, creating/improving processes/standards, teaching design classes, community contribution activities). Minimum role qualifications requirement: - 5 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes. - 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks. Minimum role qualification requires proficiency in: - Design expertise - Manufacturing process knowledge - Technical data analysis and synthesis - Manufacturing processes - Troubleshooting and failure analysis - Product development lifecycle - Engineering fundamentals - Material properties knowledge - Cross-functional technologies - Systems thinking - Product architecture - Hardware systems and subsystems integration Work Location: Mountain View, CA - Hybrid (Tues-Thurs in the office.
