Job Description

Twin Rivers Paper Company, headquartered in Madawaska, Maine, is an integrated specialty paper manufacturer producing 400,000 tons of paper per year for the packaging, publishing, label, and technical sectors. With 100 years of papermaking history, the company operates a pulp mill in New Brunswick, and diverse paper assets in northern Maine and upstate New York that produce uncoated and coated white papers in a broad range of basis weights and finishes.

SCOPE:

Reporting to the Technical Director, the PD Technologist is responsible for supporting the product development efforts at the Madawaska Mill, which include but is not limited to screening new chemistries, conducting paper analysis reports and being a resource to the product development engineer. 

RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Actively supports and promotes safe work practices throughout the mill by being present at safety activities and personally encouraging safe behaviors. conducts a monthly safety meeting and performs safety audits.
  • Continually networking to identify potential new product opportunities and chemistries.
  • Support improvements in existing grades and is a resource to PD Engineers to help develop new products.
  • Conduct paper analysis reports on competitive paper samples.
  • Assist operations in the scale up of new paper grades, including trials at the mill and at the customer’s plant.
  • Supports the product development engineer, sales, marketing and technical services in introducing new products and maintaining existing products.
  • Assist with quality testing based on any field complaints of current grade offerings.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Is responsible for weekend coverage on a rotation basis.
  • Shall have responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). Designated personnel shall have defined responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.
  • Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP principles and Food Safety Standard.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree in related field, or equivalent trade experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Pulp and Paper
  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent spends 80% of the time in a lab and the remaining 20% of the time is spent in meetings or supporting development trials on paper machines.
