Your opportunity:

The Product Engineer II will produce designs and redesigns of new and existing products to complement and enhance product offerings and continually improve quality, minimize production costs and sustain a competitive advantage in our industry. Work closely with marketing, sales and manufacturing on new product concepts, features and/or special designs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • With minimal oversight, develop new product designs and redesigns in coordination with sales, marketing and manufacturing functions.
  • Prepare bill-of-materials on new and changed designs and special design requests under direction of design team.
  • May oversee the release of design into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs.
  • Evaluate complex material selection, cost analysis, and vendors as required to implement new designs. Review, along with purchasing personnel, the selection and specification of new purchased component parts for product designs.
  • Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, including the interpretation of test results. May be required to set up and run test equipment.
  • Conducting with oversight of the testing and reviewing of new designs, interpreting test data and recommending and/or implementing necessary corrective action based on test data. Will interface with agencies associated with certifying products (AMCA, UL, etc.).
  • Lead technical consultation internally to sales and marketing personnel and externally to customers.
  • Maintain close contact with the shop floor and listen to the problems and ideas. Make recommendations on prioritizing the shop floor feedback and collaborate with team on execution.
  • Maintain and improve current documentation to the minimum of set standards for production, manufacturing, and engineering.
  • Visit job sites to review installation and/or design problems and make a determination and resolve the situation.
  • Lead/facilitate in value engineering/design for manufacturing assembly on individual products to continually improve the cost efficiency of design and manufacturing processes.
  • May lead any/all external agency approval (i.e., U.L. AMCA). May also be involved in technical committees, standard committees, etc.
  • Manage and/or assist moderately complex team projects including determining timelines.
  • Will provide mentoring, training, indirect supervision of other team members, or may have direct reports.
  • Support production and manufacturing quality management system and policies.
  • May maintain knowledge of new technologies that are appropriate in either product development or in manufacturing processes to improve the company’s competitive position.
  • Plan, define and test the product selection software

Business Unit Specific Responsibilities

Lead projects within the DOAS business, driving execution through the New Product Development (NPD) process. This role is responsible for delivering projects on time and within scope while aligning cross-functional teams to meet business and operational objectives.

What you should have:

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in engineering required.
  • 2 Year / Associate Degree in engineering or a related field of study or equivalent years of job experience required.
  • 4 Year / Bachelor Degree in engineering preferred.
  • Experience managing projects in a manufacturing, engineering, or product development environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with structured NPD or stage-gate processes preferred.

TRAVEL

Travel is required 10-25% of time.

Occasional mobility required to attend in-person meetings and complete various office tasks.  Work may be performed in company’s setting, home, or hybrid.
