Job Description Summary

The Atlassian Product Owner is responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Atlassian collaboration and work management products, including Jira and Confluence, that support teams across the enterprise.This role ensures the Atlassian platform is healthy, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards, while maximizing business value through globally consistent, out-of-the-box solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Atlassian products (including Jira, Confluence), ensuring alignment with Enterprise Technology objectives and broader business strategies.
  • Serve as the primary product owner and customer proxy for Atlassian tooling, translating business needs into clear epics, features, and user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Establish, maintain, and prioritize the Atlassian product backlog and roadmap, balancing near-term delivery, long-term platform health, and strategic outcomes.
  • Lead backlog refinement, release planning, and prioritization activities in collaboration with delivery teams, architects, and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with and manage third-party vendors providing Atlassian platform engineering, DevOps, and support services, holding them accountable for delivery outcomes, platform stability, performance, cost effectiveness, and adherence to SLAs and standards.
  • Own vendor governance activities, including performance reviews, demand planning, capacity management, issue escalation, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage Atlassian licensing and subscriptions, including user tier management, cost optimization, renewal planning, compliance, and alignment with usage and business demand.
  • Lead product procurement activities for Atlassian and related tools, partnering with sourcing, finance, and legal teams to evaluate options, justify spend, negotiate contracts, and onboard new products or capabilities.
  • Ensure Atlassian solutions are designed and delivered for global use, minimizing customization and localization and prioritizing out-of-the-box (OOTB) capabilities wherever possible.
  • Actively monitor and manage platform health, including stability, performance, security, scalability, technical debt, upgrades, and overall lifecycle management.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, risk, and governance standards, including data protection and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Scrum Masters, engineers, architects, and other Product Owners to support agile ceremonies, cross-team alignment, and dependency management across the delivery ecosystem.
  • Participate in system demos and reviews, validate delivered work against the Definition of Done, and formally accept completed features and enhancements.
  • Engage global stakeholders to gather feedback, manage expectations, drive adoption, and continuously improve the value delivered by the Atlassian platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of the product lifecycle and agile product ownership practices.
  • Hands-on experience working as a Product Owner in an Agile environment.
  • Experience owning and managing a SaaS-based enterprise platform, including roadmap planning, lifecycle management, upgrades, and platform health.
  • Demonstrated experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) or similar enterprise work management platforms.
  • Experience supporting or enabling AI-driven solutioning, including evaluating use cases, integrating AI capabilities, and ensuring solutions deliver measurable business value.
  • Working knowledge of system integrations, APIs, and data flows between enterprise platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including how they support platform stability, automation, and continuous delivery.
  • Ability to define product strategy, prioritize competing demands, and make informed tradeoff decisions balancing near-term needs with long-term platform health.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships across business teams, engineering, architecture, security, and third-party vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Product Owner, Scrum Master Certifications (e.g., CSPO, CSM).
  • Familiarity with scaled agile frameworks (SAFe, LeSS) and agile practices such as Kanban or XP.
  • Track record of continuous learning in agile, product management, or platform ownership.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily an office or hybrid work environment, depending on location and role designation.
  • Collaboration with global teams across multiple time zones.
  • Occasional flexibility in work hours to support global stakeholders or platform activities.

Compensation:

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $110,000 - $121,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.

This is a hybrid position requiring three days in office per week in one of our hub locations (Cedar Rapids, Denver, Philadelphia). Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
