Job Description

Product Portfolio Manager – Internal Systems (Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain) Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Product Portfolio Manager with our customer, the largest distributor of building supplies in the United States. This is a permanent position offering a base salary of $150,000 – $170,000 per year plus a 40% annual bonus. The role will be performed on a hybrid schedule — onsite 1–3 days per week in Beloit, WI. Position Description The Product Portfolio Manager will own the strategic vision, roadmap, and performance of internal-facing product portfolios that support Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and other commercial operations functions. This leader will guide the evolution of internal systems and tools that enable business efficiency, operational execution, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. Working closely with business partners and cross-functional teams, the Product Portfolio Manager will define long-term strategy, translate business needs into actionable plans, and ensure the portfolio consistently delivers meaningful value to internal users. In this role, you will also lead, mentor, and develop a team of Product Managers. While individual Product Managers focus on near-term roadmaps and tactical delivery, you will own the broader portfolio vision, ensuring alignment across teams and promoting a culture of collaboration, customer-centricity, and continuous improvement. Key ResponsibilitiesPortfolio Vision & Strategy • Define and communicate the strategic vision for internal-facing product portfolios supporting Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and related teams. • Maintain a comprehensive roadmap that aligns with organizational goals and evolving business needs. • Manage lifecycle decisions across the portfolio, including investment prioritization, optimization, and sunsetting. Customer & Market Insights • Conduct research, internal interviews, and workflow studies to identify user needs and emerging opportunities. • Translate insights into value-driven portfolio strategies that improve internal processes and user experience. Product Development & Experimentation • Champion experimentation frameworks to test product adoption, usability, and effectiveness. • Collaborate with engineering, design, and delivery teams to define product requirements, remove impediments, and ensure smooth execution. • Oversee development of features, enhancements, and internal tools across multiple product teams. Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment • Partner closely with Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and executive stakeholders to gather requirements, refine priorities, and establish alignment. • Serve as the strategic point of contact for portfolio direction and progress. Performance Measurement • Define, track, and communicate portfolio KPIs such as adoption, satisfaction, productivity impact, and operational efficiency. • Use data-driven insights to refine strategies and influence future direction. Go-to-Market & Change Enablement • Lead communication and rollouts of new capabilities, partnering with Sales Ops, Merchandising, and Supply Chain teams to ensure successful adoption. • Support organizational readiness through clear documentation, internal training, and cross-functional coordination. Continuous Improvement & Risk Management • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence. • Identify risks and proactively manage them throughout the product lifecycle. People Management Responsibilities • Hire, lead, and develop Product Managers supporting various internal systems and business domains. • Provide ongoing mentorship, performance management, and career development. • Foster a high-performing, collaborative product organization with clear expectations and shared accountability. Essential Skills & Experience • 7+ years in Product Management roles, including 5+ years managing a portfolio of products, ideally in B2B, supply chain, retail, distribution, or internal-systems environments. • Proven ability to define and execute product vision and strategy across complex business areas. • Experience leading and mentoring Product Managers; strong leadership and communication skills. • Strong understanding of internal operational workflows—Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or Sales Operations strongly preferred. • Analytical capability to evaluate performance metrics, test product experience, and support data-driven decision-making. • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional collaboration and influencing stakeholders at all levels. • Solid understanding of technology platforms and the software development lifecycle. • Familiarity with Agile or Lean practices and flow-based metrics such as cycle time and throughput. • Customer-centric mindset with an ability to deeply understand user needs and translate them into meaningful product solutions. Desirable Qualifications • Experience in wholesale distribution, logistics, or commercial operations. • Financial acumen for budgeting, forecasting, and business case development. • Working knowledge of UX/UI principles. • Background in e-commerce, enterprise systems, or internal digital transformation.
