Job Description

Production Scheduler

Job Description: The Production Scheduler is responsible for scheduling machine time on steel cutting equipment to support on-time delivery and efficient use of production capacity. This role works closely with Operations and Sales, enters and maintains production appointments, tracks schedule performance, and helps develop scheduling processes, metrics, and reporting tools. This position is based out of the Lisle headquarters and requires in-person attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and manage machine time for steel cutting equipment based on customer orders, capacity, and operational constraints.
  • Enter, update, and maintain production appointments in the scheduling system.
  • Assist the Master Scheduler in maintaining an accurate and current production schedule across all sites.
  • Monitor daily production activity and compare actual results to the planned schedule.
  • Communicate regularly with Operations and Sales regarding production status, priorities, schedule changes, and potential delays.
  • Maintain accurate production and scheduling records using scheduling systems and Excel.
  • Create and distribute daily and weekly production, capacity, and performance reports.
  • Assist in developing, tracking, and reporting key performance metrics (KPIs).
  • Help create, improve, and document scheduling processes where gaps exist.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to scheduling, reporting, and machine utilization.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in production scheduling, manufacturing planning, or a similar role, preferably in a metal, steel, or machine-based environment.
  • Experience scheduling machine time in a production or shop-floor setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (filtering, formulas, basic analysis); ability to use Excel for reporting and scheduling support.
  • Experience working with ERP, scheduling, or manufacturing systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with Operations, Sales, and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and respond effectively to production disruptions.
  • Analytical mindset with an interest in building processes, improving workflows, and developing metrics.
  • Continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
