Join Lumen as a Production Technician to join our innovative algae production team. In this hands-on role, you'll operate photobioreactor systems and support daily production activities including inoculations, transfers, harvests, sampling, and processing. You'll work in a structured, clean production environment with a strong emphasis on food safety, personal safety, and adherence to written procedures and GMP.
This position combines day-to-day reactor operations with cleaning, maintenance, documentation and recordkeeping, and close collaboration with Production and Quality Assurance teams to maintain compliance with Lumen's QMS.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Production Operations:
Perform daily reactor operations, including inoculations, transfers, harvests, daily sampling, and processing.
Assist with algae cultivation activities including inoculations, transfers, harvests, and sample collection.
Utilize laboratory equipment such as pipettes, mechanical pipettors, balances, and spectrophotometers accurately and effectively.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
Conduct regular cleaning, inspection, and basic/light maintenance of production equipment and areas.
Perform and document daily and weekly cleaning tasks in production areas to maintain hygiene and operational standards.
Quality & Compliance:
Strictly follow food safety and personal safety standards and protocols.
Operate meticulously according to written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Collaborate closely with the Production Head and Quality Assurance teams to schedule production operations and ensure adherence to Lumen's quality management system (FSCC 22000).
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily sampling, testing, and batch/lot records.
Document cleaning, inspection, and basic maintenance activities as required by quality and operational procedures.
Communication and Collaboration:
Coordinate effectively with team members to maintain production schedules and compliance.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a team-oriented attitude, and a willingness to learn new processes.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Work experience in commercial food or beverage production or an equivalent environment emphasizing cleanliness and safety.
Coursework or background in biology or related scientific fields (preferred).
Prior experience in environments governed by quality assurance systems (e.g., ISO 9001 or similar), including document control, batch/lot recordkeeping, documented operating procedures, cleaning, and quality testing (preferred).
Experience in sanitary liquid handling, particularly in commercial beverage or food processing environments (preferred).
Skills and Attributes:
Ability to understand and strictly follow detailed operational procedures and instructions.
Mechanical competence, particularly in handling pumps, hoses, and sanitary equipment.
Strong attention to detail; safety-minded with enthusiasm for maintaining a clean production environment.
Good computer skills for documentation and data entry.
Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative, team-oriented attitude, and a willingness to learn new processes.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time (2 or more hours)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 kg.
- Capable of safely manipulating hoses, air lines, and sanitary tri-clamps, including overhead operations.
- Capable of safely using step stools and ladders per company safety protocols.
