Job Description

Position Overview

The Productization Engineering Lead bridges R&D and Operations, leading the transition of new technologies, prototypes, and product concepts into scalable, manufacturable, and commercially successful products. This role provides technical leadership for industrial sensing and embedded systems products while driving product readiness, manufacturing launch, quality, and lifecycle support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead product commercialization from prototype through production launch.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to define requirements, manage risks, and execute productization plans.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Testability (DFT), and Design for Reliability (DFR).
  • Lead product verification, validation, pilot builds, and production readiness activities.
  • Establish manufacturing processes, test methods, tooling, calibration, and work instructions.
  • Provide technical leadership for sensor electronics, embedded systems, industrial communications, and instrumentation products.
  • Manage engineering changes, BOMs, configuration control, and product documentation.
  • Lead root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers and facilitate design reviews, stage-gate reviews, and launch readiness assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in general electrical engineering/product development, productization, manufacturing engineering, or related roles.
  • Proven success commercializing industrial instrumentation, sensor, embedded, or electromechanical products.
  • Strong background in analog circuit design, embedded systems, microcontrollers, and C/C++ firmware development.
  • Experience with PCB design tools (Altium or equivalent) and industrial protocols including 4-20 mA, HART, Modbus, RS-485, and IO-Link.
  • Experience with BOM management, ECOs, configuration control, validation testing, and manufacturing support.
  • Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional engineering projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial sensing, process instrumentation, or automation products.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI, ATEX, IECEx, intrinsic safety, or functional safety requirements.
  • Experience with automated test systems, calibration processes, and manufacturing automation.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and NPI methodologies.
  • Experience with wireless industrial communications, FPGA, or CPLD development.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 10% travel.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation while performing engineering analysis, design, documentation, and project-related tasks.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers requiring manual dexterity for typing, data entry, technical documentation, and operation of computers, testing equipment, and other engineering-related tools.
  • Frequent verbal communication and hearing ability required to collaborate with team members, contractors, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders in person, virtually, and by telephone.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout office, laboratory, or manufacturing as required to support engineering activities.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, and reaching while conducting inspections, evaluations, testing, or troubleshooting activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or move equipment, materials, drawings, samples, or tools weighing up to 30 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read technical drawings, specifications, reports, and computer screens, and to inspect equipment, components, and completed work for accuracy and quality.
