Job Title: Drafter Location: Austin, TX 78759 (100% onsite) Duration: 12-Month contract Pay Range: $19.00-$32.53/hour without benefits until permanent role is offered Job Description: Job Description: The NI ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions team is seeking to hire an experienced Mechanical Drafter to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, engineering teams, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design and deploy NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to gather system and structural requirements to calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements, then create detailed designs using CAD software. Core Job Responsibilities: This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, interface with contract manufacturers and internal personnel to create custom mechanical designs needed for the system. The role will include: Document new and revised electromechanical products. Provide CAD drafting support using tools like Creo and CREO Element Direct. Support engineering teams on prototyping, product assembly, product testing, etc. Experience and Skill Requirements: Minimum Requirements Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Computer Aided Design and Drafting. 5 - 8 years of relevant industry experience. Proficiency in computer-aided drafting, 2D and 3D CAD environments. Basic mechanical design knowledge including familiarity with sheet metal, plastic injection molding, machining, and extrusion parts. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required. Experience with electronic assembly and complex mechanical assembly is a plus. Experience with CREO Parametric is advantageous. US Citizen ONLY, ability to work on ITAR projects and qualify for DoD Clearances Preferred Skills: Familiar with fixture and tool design Familiar with thermal analysis and stress analysis Knowledge of FMEA and RCCA methodologies Knowledge of fabrication techniques, (machining, stamping, extrusion, casting, sheet metal layout, etc.) Knowledge of ESD principles Basic knowledge of electrical design principles i.e. grounding, shielding, cable design Demonstrated ability to: Be detail-oriented, have a strong understanding of building processes, and possess excellent technical drafting skills Work effectively in a group development environment Problem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutions Take initiative, be a self-starter, and work independently Persistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completion Have a strong work ethic and drive to succeed
