For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Environmental Protection Agency through the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Emergency response; Sampling equipment maintenance/calibrations; Warehouse and/or logistics operations, vehicle/fleet operations, a related field or any combination. OR AA Degree in Experience/education in vehicle maintenance, warehouse/inventory operations and shipping/logistics is ideal. Highly competitive candidates will have some background in math, science or related field. Combination of experience and education can be used to qualify for this position or a degree can qualify. OR Previously completed training in Radiation safety; environmental sampling/monitoring experience is ideal

  • Strong mechanical skills and initiative desired
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS OneDrive, Fax, Copying Machine, Scanner
Duties:

Supports operations in fleet, warehouse logistics and emergency response readiness. Ensures equipment efficiency and regulatory compliance through oversight, calibration and inventory systems. Applies technical judgment to sustain mission-critical assets including air samplers, vehicles and response equipment.

  • Assess vehicle, generator and warehouse/shop conditions (including tools/supplies); track, schedule and recommend maintenance/ cleaning based on operational verifications and runs; evaluate and organize areas to ensure operational readiness.   40%
  • Assist in operating fleet, air sampler and warehouse programs; assess equipment for maintenance needs, develop shipping documentation/instructions, perform calibrations and coordinate shipping to meet program requirements.   15%
  • Monitor, track and document emergency response equipment, warehouse and consumable activities.   10%
  • Perform operational checks on vehicles and radiation monitoring equipment.   10%
  • Ship equipment and maintain related documentation. Ensure proper handling, labeling and documentation and compliance requirements specified by Federal regulations. Prepare/assist with the deployment of emergency response assets and assist with inventory, inspection and storing of equipment.   10%
  • Maintain and update logbooks, computer databases and other records. Use computer-based spreadsheets and/or databases for management of inventory.   10%
  • Perform other duties as assigned.   5%
Other:
  • Basic radiation safety; Environmental health and safety training.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel with EPA staff to work sites; estimate 2 trips per year
  • Overnight travel: Potential overnight travel during work site visits.
  • Health Safety Training: Enrollee must receive NRC-approved training on Basic Radiation Worker Training. Individual must also receive training from EPA staff on equipment operations, calibrations and maintenance procedures.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Enrollee will receive this required training prior to work assignment and responsibility.
  • Lifting items less than 50 lbs such as moving cases of instruments in preparation for deployment, testing, storage and/or shipping. Possible exposure to hold/cold weather and noisy environments. Physical activities could include conducting maintenance at or near operating equipment. Potential exposure to ionizing radiation sources and other chemicals and hazardous materials such as oil, lubricants, greases and other equipment and vehicle maintenance related materials/waste.

  • Required Safety Gear: Coveralls, gloves, hard hat, steel-toed shoes and safety goggles/glasses will be needed
  • Safety Gear Use: When lifting and moving equipment and instruments cases; when performing equipment repair and calibration.
