The Professional Practice Program Manager provides programmatic support, leadership and strategy to programs that support the advancement of professional nursing practice. This exceptional and visionary professional promotes a culture of active engagement and collaboration throughout the healthcare team by fostering an environment that supports nursing scientific inquiry, evidence-based practice and the advancement of the nursing profession at OU Health.

- Collaborates with nursing leadership to create an environment that supports and promotes nursing excellence and the elevation of professional practice.
- Oversees the Nurse Leader Development Program, Nursing Career Advancement Program, Nurse Leadership Forum and other events associated with Nursing Excellence.
- Facilitates opportunities for skill enhancement, leadership competency and career advancement that support the ongoing professional development of nursing staff.
- Supports daily operations of the Office of Professional Practice. Leads and supports programs and activities that advance the standard of Professional Practice in Nursing across OU Health.
- Leads and supports nurse recognition and excellence activities and programs such as Nurse’s Week, Daisy Award and Certified Nurses Day.
- Supports programs related to Nursing Excellence such as Magnet, Beacon and NDNQI.
- Provides strategic guidance and support to Nurse Residency/Transition to Practice programs in collaboration with Residency Program Coordinator and Director of Clinical Education.
- Empowers nursing teams to actively own decision-making processes related to patient care, clinical practice, policy development and professional development.
- Promotes a culture of ownership and accountability among nursing staff within the domains of practice, quality, competence and knowledge.
- Collaborates with nursing teams to develop evidence-based care practices that enhance patient outcomes and safety while encouraging continuous improvement and innovation to achieve the highest quality of patient care.
- Supports activities that promote clinicians’ readiness to enhance the patient journey.
- Promotes collaboration and partnership with non-nursing teams throughout OU Health to advance quality of care and an environment of learning.
- Promotes, develops and supports expansion of OU Health Nursing’s digital presence and engagement within various internal and external media platforms including maintenance of the organization’s intranet site (The HUB).
- Fosters strong collaborative relationships among nursing leadership, clinical teams and other stakeholders to ensure the success of professional governance initiatives.
- Collaborate with professional organizations and external partners to share and learn best practices that promote the advancement of nursing professional practice.
- Develop and maintain strategic and collaborative relationships with academic and community partners.
General Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Master's of Science in Nursing required.
Experience: At least 5 years of RN experience including at least 3 years of experience in Nursing Professional Development and/or Clinical Education required.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
- Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)) required at hire.
- Nursing Professional Development – Board Certified (NPD-BC) issued by the ANCC required within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based practice principles and their application in healthcare settings.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve common goals and positive outcomes.
- Ability to support the growth of autonomy and professional identity.
- Ability and willingness to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of nursing professional governance.
- Knowledge of technology concepts including web, cloud services, mobile apps and wireless communication preferred.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team to deliver high-quality and efficient results.
- Ability to lead optimization of health IT systems at a tertiary/quaternary care organization.
