SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assist with planning preparation, assists with the front desk at the Warford Activity Center and occasionally the Tennis Center, and delivery of recreation programs, education programs, special events, camps, and public programs for the Parks and Recreation Department.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • May be asked to work independently at other facilities or parks without supervisor on duty

  • Often asked to work independently at Warford Activity Center, the Tennis Center and the Zoo by performing job tasks such as opening/closing duties, attending to any facility issues, attending patrons and customer's needs, cashiering, and provide general supervision at these facilities.

  • Provide assistance at any park or facility in response to any issues that may arise medical emergencies, animal control problems, homeless issues, and any issues where the police department involvement would be required to assist.

  • Should be able to consistently exhibit competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with participants.

  • Provide activities for each group according to the participant's ages, interests, and abilities. The activities must be appropriate to the Participants' health, safety, and well-being. The activities also must be flexible and promote the Participants' emotional, social, and mental growth.

  • Should be able to lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in programs or special events.

  • Flexible schedule to assist special events.

  • Must be willing to complete training to become an instructor for programs such as, all day long kids' camps, gaming and coding programs, outdoor programs such as fishing, camping archery, kayaking, sports camps and possibility of lifeguard certifications to provide lifeguards for programs if a lifeguard is not available.

  • Engage in creative, age-appropriate, and responsibly managed activities with program participants.

  • Provide assistance in educational presentations.

  • Must relate to participants and staff with courtesy, respect, tolerance, and patience.

  • Follow department policies and procedures to safeguard the health, safety, and wellbeing of all program children, participants and or patrons.

  • Identifies needs for programs and program changes

  • Implements programs.

  • Write and implement daily activity plans.

  • Attending regular staff meetings and trainings.

  • Interacts with customers to provide exceptional service, receive complaints, suggestions, and questions, provides information and assistance as requested.

  • Tracks attendance of all classes monthly and sends report to supervisors.

  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly, or completely unrelated to normal job functions during special events or programming.

  • Assists with moving of furniture, set up and take down of tables and chairs for meetings, rentals, or other events

  • Assists with set up and take down of a variety of programs such as tents for camping, loading and unloading kayaks from storage, a multitude of archery and fishing equipment, advance knowledge in how to set up and break down gaming consoles in the game room etc.

  • Assists with set up and take down of different gym apparatus such as volleyball standards/ nets, as well as bleacher placement as needed or directed.

  • Must be able to demonstrate initiative, think, work, and make independent decisions based on sound judgment.

  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • Must be age 15 or older.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must complete CPR/First Aid training per calendar year. Training must be completed prior to Program start dates and completed on an annual basis. Must complete other training during the course of the calendar year such as archery training, childcare training, lifeguard certifications, etc.
  • Prior experience teaching an array of group classes would be beneficial.
  • Anyone 18+ will have access to van and trailer driving training and a valid Texas Driver's License is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Must be familiar with the Standards of Care as adopted by the City Council.

Skill in:

  • Interacting with the public tactfully and professionally.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

License and Certification Requirements

  • A valid Texas Driver's License is recommended or must have reliable transportation. Must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified within thirty (30) days of hire date.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have reliable transportation. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds consistently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays year-round. We will work around a reasonable school schedule. Dependability and reliability are a must.

Salary:

Starting at $9.50/hour for Seasonal, $10/hour for Part time, Unpaid for Internship
