Job Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a (Program Manager II to manage the Systems Pharmacology AI Research Center (SPARC). The purpose of the SPARC is to develop new AI-based approaches in informatics, data science, and clinical trials across multiple fields, including genomics, precision health, and medicine, while accelerating drug discoveries to address various clinical conditions. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic leader with a proven track record of creating and maintaining strong relationships using effective interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to work independently and use their initiative to achieve the goals they have set. We are looking for a proactive employee who collaborates well with others on projects and feels comfortable working with different personalities, all with the end goal of creating the best outcomes.

Responsible for administratively managing a large or complex University program or multiple programs. Provides input in the development of program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Typically supervises small staffs and are responsible for long range planning. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, grant and report writing. May handle regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions and identify research funding. May handle event planning and oversight of construction projects.

Duties Include:

  • Managing major collaborations by partnering with faculty and other staff entities on project writing development and personnel management
  • Monitors and oversees daily operations of SPARC
  • Responsible for strategic planning, project administration and management
  • Collaborates with department staff as needed to ensure completion of major projects and tasks
  • Directs the assembly of new and renewal grant applications, including supplements including grant writing, grant proposals, and grant administration (in conjunction with departmental administrators)
  • Prepare and submit designated reports including status reports, summaries, and program planning reports in a timely manner.

Salary Range: $51,270 - $83,300

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
