Job Description

MFS is spear-heading the Communities Partnering 4 Peace,a framework designed to provide comprehensive, long-term approach to reduce violence and gang activity. This framework will bring together community-driven strategies that will empower community-based organizations to intervene with those individuals at the highest risk of driving the violence while working with the overall resident population to transform perceptions and realities of their community. This holistic framework responds to high-risk incidents while also being proactive in preventing situations.

We are now hiring for a full-time Program Manager of Community Safety & Transit Operations to join our Metropolitan Peace InitiativesTeam

SALARY:

  • The average salary for this position will fall in the range of $58,000 and $70,371 annually. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill and experience level.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Directly supervises all Senior Field Managers who serve as field-level operations leads coordinating staffing, schedules, and deployment strategies.
  • Fosters an environment of open communication and collaboration, which builds a student-centered, community-focused team among all field staff and partners.
  • Ensures that training and standards are operationalized with fidelity in the field by Senior Field Managers and partner agency staff.
  • Coordinates a range of training programs for violence intervention, de-escalation, and situational awareness specific to navigating youth group behavior safely within a transit environment.
  • Provides technical support to the field in implementing new strategies that demonstrate program model fidelity, golden thread documentation, collaboration across communities, and use of evaluation feedback to inform practice.
  • Actively participates in forums, meetings, and strategy sessions with community members, public officials, law enforcement (such as CPD and OEMC).
  • Authorizes personnel actions, in consultation with Human Resources; promotes staff diversity; provides supervision, consultation and training to staff; and consistently evaluates performance, providing coaching and timely feedback as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, criminology, sociology, and or related field required.
  • 4+ years of experience in training, street outreach, or equivalent.
  • Experience supervising field managers, program supervisors, or operations leaders with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience operating violence interruption, street outreach, or community safety programs in high-traffic, mobile public spaces or 24-hour operational environments.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. 

TRAVEL/MOBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Driving for work required with a personally owned vehicle

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • The ability to organize and cultivate leadership among a myriad of stakeholder groups and facilitate group meetings.
  • The ability to develop curriculum, coordinate training, provide policy analysis, and be a dynamic presenter.
  • Deep knowledge and cultural understanding of the community dynamics, youth travel patterns, and neighborhoods served by the CTA's Red, Orange, and Green Line corridors.
  • Entrepreneurial, collaborative and a continuous learner.
  • A commitment to social justice.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.
