Job Description

As a Program Team Lead (PTL), you will play a pivotal role in leading the strategic development and execution of one or more clinical-stage, early development or lifecycle management programs at the Biogen West Coast Hub (WCH). The PTL is accountable for providing strategic and multidisciplinary drug development expertise to maximize value and deliver programs within the portfolio. As the leader of the program team, the PTL drives the formulation and execution of integrated, clinical program-level development plans with associated budget and resources.

You will ensure that all functional voices are represented and that business considerations of time, risk, and value are integrated seamlessly into planning and execution phases. This role is crucial to our business, as you will be accountable to governance mechanisms for program-related decisions and represent the asset as needed at portfolio governance forums. Through strategic partnership with the Program Manager, you will ensure the efficient and timely execution of the clinical program plan, fostering a strong team culture while maintaining alignment with our organizational goals and values.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development and ongoing refinement of integrated clinical program development plans to maximize value creation and efficient execution.
  • Establish and maintain clear program goals, timelines, and risk management strategies.
  • Drive accountability among functional team members and ensure delivery of functional level plans.
  • Represent the program internally and externally as needed, including at governance forums, engaging effectively and effortlessly with peers and senior stakeholders both at the West Coast Hub and Biogen headquarters.
  • Integrate scientific and business considerations to support clinical development plan execution and decision-making.
  • Foster a strong team culture for the effective planning and execution of clinical development strategies, prioritizing nimbleness and speed without sacrificing clarity or quality.
  • Contribute to West Coast Hub and departmental best practices to promote program synergies across teams and with key stakeholders at Biogen headquarters.

Who You Are:

You are a strategic thinker with a strong executive presence, able to navigate and align senior stakeholders with ease. Your enterprise mindset and business acumen allow you to integrate scientific, value, and risk considerations into decision-making processes. You excel in matrix leadership, coaching and mentoring cross-functional teams to achieve collaborative success. Your exceptional communication skills, coupled with your resilience and servant leadership style, make you a natural fit for this role. You hold yourself and others accountable, driving progress with maturity and empathy.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred (MS/MD/PhD/PharmD/MBA).
  • 10-12 years of drug development experience in pharma or biotech.
  • Proven track record of strategic leadership in delivering complex cross-functional goals.
  • Experience in creating and executing integrated asset- or program-level development plans aligned with broader strategies.
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic areas and optimal, end-to-end development strategies.
  • Ability to identify bottlenecks, surface issues, and proactively drive for their timely escalation and resolution.
  • Ability to anticipate internal and external drivers of change as well as understand and communicate the competitive and business implications of emerging scientific and medical data.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior drug development experience involving broad-potential immunology assets.
  • Prior subcutaneous formulation development experience.
  • Deep understanding of Minimum and Target Product Profile (MPP, TPP) concepts.
  • Ability to assess and incorporate commercial, competitive and value considerations early on into the clinical development strategy and MPP/TPP.
  • Working understanding of US and ex-US regulatory requirements and processes for drug development.
  • Knowledge of key IND-enabling pharmacology, toxicology and CMC activities.
  • Experience in the development and execution of early clinical studies that minimize risk and deliver proof-of-concept for clear decision-making and rapid acceleration
  • Experience in the development and execution of pivotal clinical studies for drug registration.
