Job Description

As a Project Controls Manager you will serve as a lead for all project controls functions within an assigned region, acting as a trusted financial advisor for construction project teams, leading a team of Project Controls Analysts, and acting as a liaison between regional operations leadership and corporate finance. This highly visible and fast-paced position is charged with executive financial reporting, contract/policy compliance, and ensuring corporate processes for the region. The Project Controls Manager will report directly to the corporate executive with input locally from business unit leaders. Successful candidates must have the ability to work with professionals at all levels in the organization to accomplish the required responsibilities as defined below.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and coach entry or senior level Project Controls Analysts. Assign and review staff's work, and play a key role in the team's development including goal setting & performance management

  • Conduct short and long-term staff planning and project placement to ensure sufficient project coverage

  • Develop, refine, and implement onboarding and development plans for new Project Controls Analysts

  • Stay abreast of new projects, contracts, regulations, and project trends that could impact the organization

  • Create an enjoyable, engaged, and high performing work environment with team members and stakeholders

  • Prepare, contribute, & present at Department Management leadership meetings and Project Controls & Compliance in-house meetings

Regional Lead

  • Ensure projects are started and closed out successfully from the perspective of both contract compliance and accounting

  • Ensure project teams are trained and use the necessary systems, tools, training & applications per Clark's enterprise systems & standard process

  • Ensure that relevant Key Performance Indicators are consistently at or above goals (Owner Pay Timeliness, Subcontractor Pay Timeliness, Vendor Payment Management, Craft Payroll Timeliness, Audit Resolution, Lien Waiver, & Insurance Administration) and develop & execute action plans where needed

  • Help support project teams and Business Unit Leaders on other Operational Key Performance Indicators (Net Cash, Gross Billings, Change Orders, General Conditions, General Requirements, and Profit & Loss)

  • Lead and drive resolution of Internal Audit Finding resolution and completion

  • Oversee and/or coordinate external client, auditor, or other third-party requests

  • Help support Compliance Leaders on regulatory compliance issues as needed to ensure timely resolution

  • Help support regional office & corporate finance with General & Administrative budget, forecasting and actual cost tracking

  • Help support & collaborate with the Community Affairs Team to ensure small business / local hire contracting / regulatory compliance is planned and met on all projects

  • Routinely check in with operational leadership to ensure expectations are mutually understood, team's work product is achieved, and financial project status is understood

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or other business-related fields or similar relevant work experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Highly motivated individual with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Careful attention to detail and reliability of output

  • Proactively identify and develop relationships with industry professionals to generate and win the right work

  • Take an active role in recruiting top industry talent to join the Clark team. Identify, hire, and retain outstanding people

  • Exceed stakeholders' expectations by anticipating their needs, desires, and goals

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Suite and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in using construction technology and enterprise financial software (such as SAP, Textura, Coupa, Procore, or Google platforms)

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong in data visualization, business intelligence, Automation, & AI processes

The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

The Physical Side of the Role: Given that a good portion of your day will be spent at a desk, you should be comfortable with prolonged periods of focused work, whether it's collaborating with colleagues, analyzing data, or developing strategies. The role demands effective communication and sharp visual acuity for reviewing complex documents and performing detailed computer work. While there are times for quiet concentration, you'll also be expected to move actively throughout the office and travel occasionally to various locations, including dynamic construction sites, utilizing different modes of transportation. The ability to lift and move objects up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 25 pounds on occasion (think a box of files or small office equipment), is also required.

Your Work Environment: Your primary workspace will be in our professional office, which has a typical, quiet-to-moderate noise and light levels. As part of your work, you may also be required to visit active construction sites. These environments are naturally more dynamic and can include exposure to outdoor weather conditions, louder noise, and moving equipment. Your safety is our top priority, and you'll be expected to follow Clark Construction's safety policies and procedures, and all applicable laws, at all locations.

Clark offers a total compensation package that includes base salary, bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental/vision benefits, paid time off, retirement/401k, and Company Contribution plan. For this role the base salary range is $80,000 - 130,000. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
