Job Description
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Project Design Engineer will produce complete designs of architectural and perimeter security products for various customers and clients, including the US Government. The Project Design Engineer will be responsible for development, product integration into specification-driven projects, drawings for window and door systems, and design coordination with outside engineering consultants and project site engineering staff.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Produce project-specific, conceptual designs that match the requests of customers and the product design team
- Conduct regular meetings with internal project managers and clients to ensure projects are designed to meet project requirements
- Ensure integration of products into spec-driven project submittals
- Ensure products are designed and integrated in compliance with US Department of State, Department of Defense, and/or other related certifications and specifications
- Provide guidance to drafters within the engineering team
- Interaction with Operations and Manufacturing Engineer, and supply chain personnel to confirm manufacturing of design.

Candidate Requirements:
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance (Secret)
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Structural, Mechanical, Architectural) and 3+ years of experience, or in lieu of degree, 5+ years of experience performing in a similar role
- Structural and Architectural/Civil Engineering focus preferred
- Excellent in problem-solving
- Ability to read architectural and engineering drawings
- Strong technical expertise related to design and construction
- Proficiency in Autodesk products (Inventor and AutoCAD)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Basic understanding of project management, document control, and product lifecycle management software (Autodesk Vault). Autodesk Revit, and fusion 360 knowledge a plus
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel occasionally both domestically & internationally (5-10%)
- Knowledge of Department of State building engineering standards, design for forced entry resistance and ballistic resistance (FE/BR), façade design, architectural design, and construction specifications is desirable but not required
Project Design Engineer Role-Specific Requirements:
Highly detail-oriented in design, drafting, and coordination of project objectives.
Ability to interpret spatial conditions and constraints to ensure accurate product fitment, alignment, and integration within assemblies and overall project environments.
Proficient in using AutoCAD 2D and Inventor in combination.
Strong understanding of fundamental engineering disciplines, including:
Mechanical aptitude
Structural aptitude
Civil aptitude
Able to learn and adapt to existing company norms without attempting to alter established processes.
Responsible for supporting multimillion-dollar engineering projects, ensuring proper integration of products into specification-driven submittals.
Develop project-specific conceptual designs that align with customer requirements and internal product design standards.
Lead and participate in regular meetings with internal project managers and clients to ensure designs meet all project requirements.
Ensure all products are designed and integrated in compliance with U.S. Department of State, Department of Defense, and other applicable certifications and specifications.
Collaborate with operations, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain personnel to validate design manufacturability and production readiness.

Physical Environment:
Position is in-person, with limited opportunities for remote work. Functions in a temperature-controlled office environment most of the time. Work requires the ability to sit throughout an extended workday (8-10 hours) with occasional walking into other areas of the manufacturing facility: position requires use of fingers, hands, and arms on a consistent basis for keyboarding and phone work; position requires the ability to talk and hear; position may need to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion; excellent vision skills (with or without correction) are required. The standard office environment has moderate noise levels associated with computer equipment, customers, and phone conversations. On occasion the noise level may be loud due to various equipment in use in the manufacturing facility.
