We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the successful execution of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to coordinate project activities, maintain documentation, monitor schedules and budgets, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in commercial construction or electrical contracting who is looking to advance into an Assistant Project Manager and eventually a Project Manager position. Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other large commercial projects is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in coordinating commercial electrical construction projects from startup through closeout.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement logs, transmittals, and project documentation.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, project milestones, and long-lead items.
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Participate in project meetings, jobsite visits, and coordination meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams to improve project coordination and constructability.
  • Maintain organized project records, meeting minutes, correspondence, and document control systems.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, and project logistics.
  • Help resolve field issues, scheduling conflicts, procurement challenges, and coordination concerns.
  • Support commissioning, punch-list completion, project turnover, and final closeout activities.
  • Work closely with field leadership to ensure crews have the information, materials, and resources needed to maintain productivity.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
  • Experience working for an electrical contractor, specialty contractor, or commercial subcontractor is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of commercial electrical systems, construction methods, and field operations.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Comfortable working with office personnel, field teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, hospital, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company contribution.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Vehicle allowance, where applicable.
  • Ongoing technical training and professional development.
  • Structured career path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles.
  • Mentorship from experienced electrical construction professionals.
  • Exposure to estimating, BIM/VDC, project management, and field operations.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale commercial electrical projects with long-term career growth.
