Job Description

Position Summary

The Project Engineer's role is an integral part of the project execution process and forms an integral link between all departments, procedures & resources involved in its success. The Project Engineer's primary responsibility is to lead and manage technical aspects associated with Boost-Level engineering projects in Lincolnton. This will include Continuous Improvement initiatives, new product introductions, and manufacturing support/problem solving projects. The Product Development Process includes (but not limited to) the specification, ordering, development, qualification, installation, validation & production ramp-up of automation equipment for closures. This process requires the position to apply internal standards, procedures, and activity necessary for effective project execution. The position will report to the Engineering Manager but will have dotted-line responsibilities to the Boost Project Manager and work closely with the automation engineers and operations/maintenance staff.

Job Elements & Position Responsibilities - Level 2

  • Focusing on proven technologies, lead the specification, quotation, engineering and procurement process for automation equipment through cell approval.
  • Manage and coordinate vendor purchases, project documentation, work instructions, sampling plans, and data review processes.
  • Lead FAT and SAT activity. Coordinate resources (safety, supply chain, master data, vendors, operations, quality, tooling, process engineering, SMED, etc) to integrate delivery and qualification of new equipment into the manufacturing cell.
  • Execute equipment validation protocols with IQOQPQ procedures
  • Driving and supporting the Product Development process to ensure Stage Gate progression.
  • Proficient in Project management. Layout a plan with stage gates, timeline and status reports.
  • Ability to work well with multiple teams and clear communication at all levels of the business.
  • Support ISO efforts by complying with ISO documentation procedure.
  • Seek and develop new technological advancements that will help gain a competitive edge.
  • Engage in the process of product design validation, using prototyping, process development & materials selection.
  • Project management proficiencies: Ability to work well with multiple teams, clear communication, and updates on project status.
  • In-depth knowledge of vendors in the closure industry. Proven vendor management skills to leverage best technology, cost and lead times for project execution.
  • Creative thinking and troubleshooting mindset to keep projects on track.
  • Write clear RFQ's with functional descriptions and technical specifications for automation equipment.
  • Explore, assess, and initiate project engineering process across multiple technical disciplines. Leverage engineering process knowledge to seek the required expertise internally and externally to drive technical solutions.
  • Hands on collaboration with plant/operations teams. Support production startup issues and problems. Support site engineering to ensure proper training and processes of new equipment.
  • Lead and participate in Continuous Improvement Projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Travel: Domestic and global up to 25%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Plastics, Rigid Packaging or related technology with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in automation equipment and project engineering. Will consider candidates with an Engineering Associate degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant automation equipment and project engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of machine electronic circuits, pneumatics, and mechanics of automation equipment
  • Basic understanding of statistics & experience in its application for data analysis.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks).
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Advanced project management capabilities and able to lead by influence
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines with strong prioritization
  • Ability to advise junior engineers and technicians
  • Advanced troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Plastic part design for Engineering
  • Scientific Injection Molding
  • Experience with Mold Flow Simulation
  • Familiarity with ISO Standards
  • Design of Experiments Knowledge & Experience
  • Knowledge of Instrumental Methods of Analysis
  • Qualification in or basic understanding of statistics & experience in its application for data analysis
