Project Manager (Temporary)

The Political Science Department is seeking an experienced and highly organized Project Manager to lead the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of a multi-year civil discourse initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This role ensures alignment with project objectives, timelines, and budget while maintaining compliance with university and federal requirements. The Project Manager will collaborate closely with faculty, students, and partner organizations to drive meaningful campus and national impact through programs that promote dialogue, engagement, and peacemaking.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position and is temporary, with funding currently expected to continue through December 2029.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Lead overall coordination and execution of a multi-year, federally funded civil discourse initiative to ensure successful outcomes and impact
  • Manage all aspects of grant administration, ensuring full compliance with Department of Education and university regulations
  • Oversee project budgets, expenditures, and reporting in collaboration with financial and grant support offices
  • Develop and maintain documentation, internal controls, and reporting systems to support audits and accountability
  • Drive project planning, timelines, and workflows across multiple workstreams, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including faculty, students, and external partners, to align efforts and achieve shared objectives
  • Serve as a central point of communication, fostering collaboration among stakeholders and supporting strategic decision-making
  • Lead and support communications efforts, including digital content, newsletters, and annual reporting
  • Support planning and execution of key programs and events, including conferences, workshops, and campus initiatives
  • Supervise student staff and contribute to outreach and engagement efforts that expand the initiative's institutional and national reach

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor's degree in project management, public administration, education, social sciences, or related field and 3 years of experience managing projects OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong project and grant management skills, including knowledge of compliance and reporting requirements for funded projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to coordinate multiple teams and priorities simultaneously

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience managing federal or large institutional grants and/or experience coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Familiarity with higher education administration
  • Experience with Department of Education grant reporting and compliance
  • Experience in event planning and program evaluation
  • Knowledge of civic engagement, dialogue facilitation, or training initiatives
