Job Description
NOW HIRING: PROJECT MANAGER (CUSTOM INTEGRATION) Control Freaks Hawaii — Serious Projects. Smart People. Zero Nonsense. Oahu, Maui, Big Island | Full-Time | Benefits | High Standards Let’s Get This Out of the Way First. You do not need to come from the AV or smart home world to crush this role. Some of our best potential fits come from construction, field operations, project management, or superintendent backgrounds — places where schedules matter, people don’t always behave, and “we’ll fix it later” isn’t an option. What you do need is the ability to run complex projects, make decisions, communicate clearly, and get things across the finish line when conditions are… less than ideal. If you need perfect information, perfect people, and perfect timelines to perform, this will not be fun for you. The Role (Still No Sugarcoating): Sales sells the dream. Technicians build the thing. You make sure it actually gets finished — on purpose. As a Project Manager at Control Freaks Hawaii, you’re the calm in the chaos, the keeper of momentum, and the person everyone looks to when something inevitably goes sideways. This is an ownership role. Not a meeting scheduler. Not a professional email forwarder. What You’ll Actually Be Doing: Owning projects from post-sale handoff to final client sign-off. Turning proposals into clear scopes, timelines, and next steps that people can execute. Working with our Service Coordinator to allocate and share resources across projects and service calls. Being the main point of contact for clients — clear, calm, confident, and honest. Making real-time decisions when the plan meets reality. Managing labor, materials, schedules, and change orders like the money is yours. Protecting installation quality — clean work, documentation, testing, and completion. Finding smarter, faster, better ways to do things without cutting corners Who Tends to Win Here: Project Managers from construction, electrical, low voltage, integration, or operations-heavy industries. Construction superintendents who are good at juggling chaos but want more ownership and follow-through. People who don’t need to be chased for updates. Leaders who earn respect by being competent, consistent, and fair. Problem-solvers who move toward pressure instead of hiding from it. People who care about client experience — and know it lives or dies in execution. We can teach industry specifics. We can’t teach ownership, judgment, or work ethic. What Will Make This a Bad Fit: “That’s not my job.” Radio silence when things get uncomfortable. Blaming others instead of fixing the problem. Needing constant supervision. Confusing speed with cutting corners. What You Get in Return: Authority that matches responsibility. Competitive pay and benefits, including 401K with employer contributions. Projects that are complex, interesting, and never boring. A leadership team that values competence, accountability, and initiative. Clear paths into senior operations or leadership roles. A company that’s growing and needs people who can grow with it. HOW TO APPLY (THIS PART MATTERS): If you send only a resume, we’ll assume you didn’t read this. We want context. We want judgment. We want to see how you think. Please submit: Your resume, and A cover letter or written statement answering: Why do you want to work at Control Freaks Hawaii? Why should we trust you with our projects? Tell us about a project that went sideways — what happened, what you did, and how it turned out. What does “getting it done” mean to you? If the platform you’re viewing this on doesn’t allow a cover letter, reach out to us through our website and reference the resume you submitted so we can connect the dots. Yes, this is intentional. Clear thinking shows up in clear writing. If this feels like too much effort, this role will feel like too much work. Final Word: This is not a checkbox PM job. It’s not for everyone — and that’s exactly the point. But if you take pride in ownership, execution, and finishing strong when others stall, we’d like to hear from you. About Control Freaks Hawaii: At Control Freaks Hawaii, we’ve been geeking out over wires, waves, and wow-worthy tech for over 21 years. We design and install smart home and commercial systems that make people say, “Wait… you can do that?” We handle everything from lighting control to full-blown AV systems, automation, networking, and electrical work—basically, if it powers your space or makes it smarter, we’re on it. And yes, we service all Hawaiian islands (so whether you're in Waikiki, Waimea, or somewhere only Google Earth can find, we’ve probably been there with a ladder and a tablet). Our team is a tight-knit bunch of creative problem-solvers who take pride in doing epic work—and having a good laugh while we’re at it. We believe in craftsmanship, clear communication, and knowing exactly how many zip ties it takes to achieve cable management nirvana. If you love turning chaos into clean installs, obsess over the little details, and want to work with a company that values talent over titles—welcome to your people.
