General Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the comprehensive leadership, management, and execution of architectural projects from initial client engagement through project closeout. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for project performance, including design quality, technical execution, client satisfaction, financial performance, schedule adherence, and team coordination. The Project Manager oversees all phases of the architectural process—pre-design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration—ensuring projects are delivered in alignment with client objectives, firm standards, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and profitability targets.

Essential Duties

  • Project Leadership & Management: Own overall project delivery and performance; develop and maintain work plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables; monitor scope, budget, schedule, and staffing; identify risks and implement mitigation strategies; manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary client point of contact; lead meetings, presentations, and design reviews; communicate progress, scope changes, and budget implications; support business development and proposals.
  • Design Leadership & Oversight: Lead development of architectural design concepts aligned with project goals; ensure solutions meet functional, aesthetic, budgetary, and regulatory requirements; provide design direction and technical guidance.
  • Technical Oversight & Documentation: Oversee preparation and coordination of drawings and construction documents; ensure completeness, coordination, and compliance with building codes, zoning, and accessibility requirements; lead QA/QC reviews.
  • Consultant Coordination: Select, coordinate, and manage structural, MEP, civil, landscape, code, and specialty consultants; ensure integrated, coordinated deliverables.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage project budgets and staffing plans; monitor labor utilization, expenses, and profitability; manage scope changes and additional-services proposals.
  • Construction Administration: Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; conduct site visits and field observations; support project closeout and punch lists.
  • Regulatory & Permitting Coordination: Coordinate with jurisdictions and agencies to secure approvals and permits; ensure code, life-safety, and accessibility compliance.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of architectural design, detailing, and construction methods, building systems, and materials.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction documents, specifications, building codes, zoning, and accessibility requirements.
  • Strong project planning, financial management, budgeting, leadership, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and mentor staff.
  • Required software: Autodesk Revit (advanced), AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office Suite. Project management software (Deltek Vantagepoint or similar) preferred. Navisworks and Adobe Creative Suite familiarity a plus.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • Professional licensure as a Registered Architect preferred (or ability to obtain licensure).
  • Minimum of 10–20 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing architectural projects of varying size and complexity; commercial, mixed-use, multi-family, rollout, or institutional experience preferred.
