Job Description

Protection and Control EngineerRole Summary The Protection and Control Engineer plays a key role in the design and delivery of substation protection, automation, and integration projects within the company's Power Delivery team. This position involves developing and reviewing technical studies, specifications, and drawings while ensuring designs meet industry standards and client requirements. The engineer will collaborate with clients, utilities, and other engineering staff across the organization to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions in power system protection and control.Key Responsibilities
  • Perform system protection and control design, including one-line diagrams, protection schemes, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and SCADA/automation integration.
  • Conduct and review engineering studies, such as short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analyses, with appropriate software tools.
  • Apply and interpret relevant industry codes and standards (e.G., IEEE, NERC, NESC, and client specifications) in project work.
  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and client deliverables that clearly explain purpose, methodology, design criteria, findings, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical review of drawings, specifications, and standards for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support field engineering efforts including equipment commissioning, relay testing, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members to ensure project goals are achieved on schedule and within scope.
  • Contribute to client relationship development and business growth opportunities.
  • Maintain professional development through ongoing study, training, and industry engagement to strengthen technical expertise.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program, or equivalent experience in the electrical engineering field.
  • One (1) or more years of work experience in protection and control, substation design, or related power systems engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of power system fundamentals, protection principles, and substation equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn specialized engineering software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with engineering software tools such as ASPEN, ETAP, CYME, or similar.
  • Familiarity with protective relay settings, testing, and commissioning practices.
  • Experience with SCADA/automation integration projects.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • PE or EIT certification, or on track toward obtaining professional licensure.
  • Prior consulting engineering experience with client interaction
